Position Summary
The Elijah Fellowship Director will design and manage a new recruitment and leadership development program, focused on the pre-rabbinical school pipeline, called the Elijah Fellowship (working title) for Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. They will work in coordination with Recruitment, Communications, and other professionals in the Office of Recruitment and Admissions (ORA) and beyond.
This is a part-time position, averaging 10 hours per week, fluctuating at different times of the recruitment cycle. Compensation will be $35,000 for 58 weeks, approximately April 1, 2025 through May 30, 2026.
Organizational Relationships
The Elijah Fellowship Director:
Reports to the Senior Director of ORA
Collaborates effectively with Rabbinical School Director, Rabbinical School faculty and the Office of Recruitment and Admissions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Elijah Fellowship Program Manager will:
Design, initiate and manage all aspects of a new spiritual direction fellowship to foster deeper connections with Jewish practice and greater commitment to Jewish religious leadership, bringing them into learning and conversation with one another, our alumni and HUC directly;
Seek out, hire and manage a small faculty of certified spiritual directors, alumni/ae educators and partner organizations for teaching talent, mentorship and leadership in the program;
Build, plan and run a culminating retreat for the fellows, faculty and spiritual directors involved in the Fellowship in Spring 2026;
Coordinate all communications and marketing, including web, social media, and alumni/ae messages, with the Associate Director of Recruitment, Marketing and Communications and the Office of Communications;
Manage and keep records on the Fellowships's budget;
Coach and mentor fellows towards a career in the rabbinate, when appropriate, and refer them to the recruiters and admissions counselors in ORA;
Collect and report on the demographic details, trends and outcomes uncovered by the fellowship, including sharing information with the Baker Foundation and their research partners, Rosov Consulting, and ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements in partnership with Institutional Advancement;
Train alumni and partners to keep both recruitment and leadership a priority in their teaching and mentorship;

John Carroll University seeks a Director of Sponsored Programs who will continue to grow the University's external funding portfolio, across all academic divisions, in alignment with its mission and strategic plan. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, the successful candidate will provide leadership for the strategic pursuit of grants and fiscal oversight of all federal and other sponsored programs. The successful candidate will assess the need for and lead the development and implementation of grant- and contract-related policy and procedure changes, as well as manage and oversee post-award, submission of proposals, award acceptance and contract negotiation, and compliance with all government, grantor, and University policies. This role also oversees financial conflict of interest and serves as JCU's Authorized Organizational Representative to federal agencies.
The Director will ensure faculty and staff are kept informed about upcoming government, corporate, and foundation grants and other relevant information, in collaboration with the Division of Advancement, as appropriate. The Director will work with college deans and other leaders to advance the university's strategic goals and mission.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Manages the Office of Sponsored Programs, its activities, programs, budget, and operation.
* Supervises a part-time Pre-Award Grant Administrator and part-time Research Compliance Administrator.
* Coordinates work related to sponsored programs with the University's Manager of Grant Accounting for fiscal management and data collection.
* Serves as JCU's Authorized Organizational Representative to federal agencies on all federal and federal-like electronic research administration submission and reporting systems.
* Collaborates with External Research Administration consultants on Facilities and Administrative Cost Rate negotiations, the Advancement division of JCU, and the Office of Legal Affairs when appropriate.
* Manages the fiscal administration of externally sponsored projects including the allowability of costs, the application of GAAP, federal and sponsor regulations, and institutional policies; and the documentation and reporting of costs.
* Responsible for post-award activities including regular review, reconciliation, and projection of award finances, preparing adjustments and corrections to award budgets, preparing financial reports, and at the end of the award, ensuring all closeout reporting requirements have been met and closing out the award.
* Upon award acceptance, defines account establishment parameters, to include billing and reporting requirements, budget, and cost sharing obligations to set up the award in Banner.
* Coordinates with PIs to submit labor distributions for personnel, reflecting cost share as appropriate; and to submit cost transfers as needed to ensure project expenses have been correctly charged.
* Communicates with PIs regularly regarding budget and expense adjustments and revisions.
* Applies federal and university rules to management of effort allocation appropriately for individuals compensated whole or in part from federal awards.
* Assists in transferring awards out of the university; and ensures closeout of all funded projects are consistent with university process and timelines.
* Coordinates and submits requests for prior approvals including no cost extensions, carryover, rebudgeting, changes in scope; ensures all requests are done in compliance with sponsor guidelines and University policies.
* Reviews effort reports and ensures the required effort certification process is conducted and documented.
* Prepares, negotiates, and administers subaward agreements, independent contractor agreements and consultant agreements.
* Manages sub-recipient monitoring, including site visits and the review of risk assessment questionnaires.
* Protects JCU's interests by reviewing and negotiating contracts, agreements and sub-awards with outside sources (e.g. federal funding agencies and industry), and acts as the liaison with JCU legal counsel when needed for non-standard research awards/contracts.
* Provides training support and guidance to JCU constituents regarding budgeting, fiscal award management processes, award terms and conditions, indemnification, intellectual property, indemnification, research compliance, and other related areas.
* Serves as liaison to external funding agencies as appropriate.
* Keeps abreast of laws, regulations, external and internal policies and procedures governing the administration of awards and contracts, and other complex agreements and serves as a resource to other units' faculty and staff.
* Monitors payroll certification submissions and performs follow-up when necessary.
* Consults with and advises on campus committees related to external funding, including the Institutional Review Board, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee or the Institutional Biosafety Committee as needed.
* Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A current dental hygiene State of Ohio license.
A graduate of a program accredited by the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA).

Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as or working with (e.g., in the case of a dentist) a dental hygienist in a clinical practice.
Previous experience as a didactic and clinical instructor in a dental hygiene program.
Experience that provides evidence of developed leadership, management, and organizational skills in dental hygiene and education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer applicants with community college teaching experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a full-time faculty position with a minimum 178-day employment contract.
The College-designated, renewable program director assignment has an associated reduction in teaching load ranging from 3-7.5 units of release time. Presently, this assignment is awarded 7.5 units of release time from classroom teaching in both Fall and Spring semesters.
