Company Description: The award-winning College of Fine Arts and Communications' External Relations team writes all of the event press releases, assists in marketing production, creates and supports all websites, works on campaigns relating to the college and university and assists the college's dean. The team also manages and oversees the college's social media pages, as well as the School of Communications, Department of Dance, Department of Theatre and Media Arts and the School of Music social media accounts. What you'll do in this position: Write news articles and features for the college and academic unit websites Attend and report on college-sponsored events Interview college faculty, students and alumni Verify accuracy of facts, dates and statistics Work with supervisor on editing and preparing articles for publication Pitch story ideas for internal and external publication Strategize with student writers about coverage Edit student articles Upload articles and images onto the college and academic unit websites Attend and participate in weekly meetings Assist with other promotional items and college events as needed Qualifications: Required Skills: Strong writing, editing and communication skills Excellent time management Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of related experience History of meeting deadlines Ability to multitask and juggle multiple deadlines/projects at once An aptitude for learning new things and self-directing Proficient in database and spreadsheet software (Word, Excel, Google Drive) Strong attention to detail Ability to work with people at all levels of an organization Ability to work well with others and feel comfortable speaking in front of a group Preferred Skills: Experience in writing, public relations, journalism or a related field Knowledge of AP style Experience with project management systems such as Basecamp or Slack Familiarity with WordPress or experience with web publishing Experience in the arts Application Instructions: Include a cover letter, résumé and three writing samples (at least two of the samples should be written in a journalistic style) with your application.
