Work Training Center history

In 1960, the Work Training Center Association for the Handicapped was incorporated as a private, nonprofit corporation.

In 1961, the Sheltered Training Center had grown and needed a new location.

In August of 1963, WTC moved to its present Chico location at 2233 Fair Street.

In 1970, the Joe McGie Center began providing services as a program of ARC.

In November of 1971, the organization purchased the Lackawanna Place building for $75k.

In July of 1975, the location at 10 Ridgedale Ave, Cedar Knolls was purchased.

In 1978 there were 45 persons served, 15 staff members, and a budget of $500,000.

In 1980 the Creative Learning Center was opened in a small house on the Skyway in Paradise.

In 1981, Do-It Leisure, which began as a university and community cooperative effort, merged with the Work Training Center.

In April of 1987, the OTC received a grant from the Morris County Department of Human Services.

Feather River Opportunity Center was created in the late 60’s with help from the Oroville Adult School and ARC. The name of the facility was changed to Feather River Industries and was merged with WTC in 1990.

In 1993, office space was rented at 14 Ridgedale Avenue.

In 1994, the Employment Horizons program became licensed as a temporary employment agency.

In 1995, Picatinny Arsenal contracted with the OTC for basic cleaning services.

Effective February 1, 2000 the name of the agency officially changed from the OTC of Morris County to Employment Horizons, Inc.

In 2005, Employment Horizons was named “Outstanding Community Rehabilitation Agency” by ACCSES NJ (Association for Choices of Community Supports and Employment Services).
