Battelle's Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Business Line is currently seeking candidates for a full time, permanent position as a **Biologist II** . This position is located in **Columbus, Ohio** .
**Responsibilities**
+ Apply experience of molecular biology, cell biology, and microbiology to design and execute laboratory experiments independently and with small teams of laboratory staff to:
+ Adapt and develop methods to:
+ Conduct DNA isolation, purification, and quantification, as well as PCR amplification.
+ Design and express recombinant proteins from engineered microorganisms
+ Conduct experiments with RG1 and RG2 microorganisms to evaluate microbial activity and antimicrobial susceptibility
+ Work independently to meet study objectives and deliverables with guidance from senior scientists.
+ Independently troubleshoot experiments using experience and scientific literature.
+ Mentor lab personnel in microbiology, molecular biology, and cell culture.
+ Analyze and interpret experimental data and prepare technical reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
+ Follow established safety guidelines to safely work with hazardous/infectious (RG2) materials.
Some domestic travel is possible but not anticipated.
**Key Qualifications**
+ PhD or MS and >2 years or BS and >5 years of experience in a relevant biological discipline.
+ Proven ability to conduct experiments according to standard operating procedures.
+ Good oral and written communication skills.
+ The ability to work in a team environment and train less experienced staff.
+ U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment.
+ Sufficiently medically fit to work in the laboratory to perform assigned duties including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE), lift up to 50 pounds, and work in the proximity of hazardous/infectious materials.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience handling Risk Group 2+ bacteria, viruses, or toxins.

The Aquatic Biologist is responsible for completion of aquatic survey services and technical reporting related to aquatic biology, including the assessment of freshwater systems, monitoring water quality, and analyzing aquatic habitats. Conduct field collections of fish for community assessments and tissue analysis in various habitats, such as lakes, rivers, and streams, using various types of methods including electrofishing, trap nets, gill nets, seines, etc.

Collect in-situ measurements of water quality parameters (e.g., temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen) during sampling events.
Collect water samples for laboratory chemical or biological analysis.
Evaluate and document aquatic habitats, assessing features such as substrate composition, flow regime, and fish cover.
Identify aquatic species using taxonomic guides and laboratory analysis, focusing on the fauna of the midwestern and eastern United States, most specifically fish species.
Maintain equipment inventory and ensure proper storage and transportation.

This candidate will need to collaborate effectively with team leads and other staff. This candidate needs to be able to complete project work independently, with minimal supervision. This position consists of predominantly field work with occasional office work. On an annual basis, work duties could be up to 75% field efforts and 25% office. During the field season, approximately April/May through October, this position could expect to work up to 75-100% in the field. Field work assignments may include consecutive days working outdoors with a field crew in all types of weather conditions and sometimes in remote and challenging locations. A typical field workday consists of 8-12 hours which may include irregular hours and weekend work. Overnight travel and working for extended periods in different states is project specific but will be required. What you will do…
Assist Range Supervisor and other fulltime range staff with daily operation of the Delaware Shooting Range.
Check range permits and check patrons in and out of the range.

What you will do…
Assist Range Supervisor and other fulltime range staff with daily operation of the Delaware Shooting Range.
Check range permits and check patrons in and out of the range.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park will utilize this announcement to clear career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL) and as such, a certificate may not be issued for this duty location.
Some of the duties will include, but are not limited to:
* As part of a field crew, you will conduct natural resource management fieldwork.
* Perform routine and recurring testing of collected samples. Field work will consist of physical, chemical, and biological assessment of aquatic resources focusing on restoration of native mussel species. Laboratory work will focus on maintaining aquatic culturing systems ensuring for the purpose of rearing native mussels.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g., packs and equipment up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and carried on a routine basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is performed in an office, laboratory, and in the field. Majority of the duties will be conducted outdoors in weather ranging from humid and hot to cold and snowy. Field work includes exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, pesticides, poisonous plants, biting insects, and wild animals. Laboratory work may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals. You will be exposed to poisonous plants including the very poisonous wetland shrub Rhus vernix (poison sumac) and Toxicodendron radicans (poison ivy), biting and stinging insects including ticks which may harbor Lyme disease, mosquitoes which may harbor West Nile Virus, and tripping hazards. Aquatic work may require full immersion and direct bodily contact with water and muck may be unavoidable.

Government Housing may be available. Located in Northeastern, Ohio Cuyahoga Valley National Park is situated along 26 miles of the Cuyahoga River Valley in a suburban setting between the cities of Akron and Cleveland. The park is predominately natural forest and meadow with some areas of agriculture and excellent outdoor recreation opportunities. Winters are moderately cold with average temperatures in the 20 to 30 degree ranges. Heavy snowfall is not unusual. Summers are moderately warm, average temperatures in the high 70's and 80's with occasional warm spells in the 90's. Responds to concerns, complaints, and disturbances on water and land. Responsible for overseeing environmental services staff and contractors, scheduling and inspecting the facilities. Performs environmental services tasks, to include cleaning and disinfection of all airport facilities and other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.
Oversees job duties of environmental services, floorcare, and contracted staff to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner. Completes employee performance evaluations and assists with time keeping as needed.
Trains and oversees the environmental services staff in the proper handling of chemical agents in the cleaning process.
Uses technology and innovative solutions.
Oversees the coordination of stocking of supplies and other cleaning materials throughout the airport. Orders supplies and replacement parts and transports biological-barrels as needed.
Conducts walk through of airport areas, inside and out and directs staff where further cleaning is needed.
Attends all CVG AA training as required
Trains employees on disinfecting procedures and COVID spray techniques.
Remains alert to public safety and security concerns. Follows all safety protocols, reports unsafe conditions when required, notifies leadership and supports the outcome.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED and three years of cleaning experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
Maintain Security Identification Display Area Clearance (SIDA)
Valid Operator's License
Obtain and maintain position appropriate NIMS & emergency training.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Applicable OSHA safety standards and other Federal, State and local regulations;
Methods, techniques and materials used in cleaning maintenance of buildings;
Personal protective equipment;
Material safety data sheets.
SKILL IN:
Demonstrated skill in making independent determinations;
Demonstrated supervisory skills;

Use of a variety of computer-based technologies including word processing, graphs and spreadsheets;

Responsibilities for the Environmental Services Technician (Laundry) position include:
Focus on laundry with ability to float to other areas within the environmental services team as needed.
Additional duties could include vacuuming, moping, sweeping, dusting assigned residential rooms and common areas.
Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
Maintain cleaning chart indicating areas that were cleaned and inspected.
Replenish cleaning and maintenance supplies.
Notify supervisors about unsafe conditions or concerning the need for repairs or maintenance.

Requirements for the Environmental Services Technician (Laundry) position include:
Prior laundry, housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred.
Previous experience in healthcare environment is a plus.
A solid work history with excellent attendance & punctuality.
High school diploma/GED or 1 to 3 years of related experience.
Basic computer knowledge including ability to complete required online safety classes.
Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Additional Requirements:
Must be able to pass FBI background check and State of Ohio BCII background check.
