While its primary location is in Silver City, New Mexico, Western New
Mexico University (WNMU) is dedicated to providing traditional and
innovative academics to students throughout the state. WNMU features more than 50 degrees at the undergraduate and graduate
level and more than two dozen certificate and associate's programs.
Programs of study include professional specializations like Accounting,
Education, Social Work and Zoology and traditional academic areas in the
Humanities and the Natural and Social Sciences. Probably the most exciting aspect of WNMU's curriculum is its set of
unique majors. Offered through the Expressive Arts division, these majors
encompass almost every area of Performing and Fine Art imaginable,
including Movement, Fiber Arts, Bronze Casting and New Media as well as
traditional Studio Art and Theatre Performance options. In its efforts to reach students throughout the state, WNMU has more than
half a dozen learning centers that allow students in rural areas to take
classes or earn a degree from WNMU. Included in such outreach efforts are
its online courses and services. Services on the Silver City campus include tutoring, academic advising,
career advisement and financial aid counseling. Students interested in applying to WNMU will need to submit an
application and proof of a high school diploma or GED. SAT or ACT scores
will be used for academic placement, but are not required. If a student
has not taken the SAT or ACT, he or she will need to take a school
