The operator must have mechanical knowledge and working knowledge of several measuring and squaring tools. The operator must have some welding experience so that repairs can be made to metal sheath when required. One to three years experience required. Essential Duties: Perform diversified duties to set up and operate a Miniwema machine to form and weld various metals around cable. Select and set up proper forming and finishing tools. Mount core reel in payoff stand; mount metal in payoff and run through guides, slitters, edge rolls, straighteners, welder, corrugating head and secure to takeup reel. Observe equipment during operation, regulating controls and making adjustments as necessary to meet specifications. Receive assistance as necessary to load payoff, unload takeup and move reels and materials. Perform Form/Weld tasks in conformity with the quality inspection checklist, the manufacturing instruction sheet (MIT), the safety work practice summary and the machine set-up sheets. Set and grind electrodes on welding apparatus, set running speed, welding current, corrugation pitch, make splices in metal strip when needed. Change dies and guides, slit and takeup metal on spools and remove for salvage. Bale scrap metal. Use precision measuring equipment as necessary to maintain check on production. Perform normal operating maintenance on equipment; notify supervisor of needed repairs. Complete workcenter documentation including OD chart forms, length sheets, traveler reel tags, traceability sheets/tags and labor reporting sheets. Detect faulty operation, defective material and report these and any other unusual conditions to supervisor. Maintain clean and orderly work area. Perform other similar and related duties as required and directed.
