This position is responsible for providing quality weldments to standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to: -
Follows all applicable policies and procedures
Required to work overtime schedule as requested to meet production needs based on established overtime procedures
Fabricates and welds product to production expectations
Read, interpret and execute to engineering drawings of weldments
Understand AWS (American Welding Society) weld symbols
Weld using standard work sequence
Qualify in GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding), 2F/2G (Horizontal Welding), 3F/3G (Vertical/Uphill Welding), 4F/4G (Overhead Welding)
Use oxygen/propylene flame straightening/cutting
Use rigging and cranes for movement of weldments
Use andon for identification of variance from standard work
Be available to assist in other areas as needed
Participates in activities and exercises in support of the Caterpillar Production System (CPS) - 5S, kaizen, etc.

Basic understanding of safety requirements in a manufacturing environment
Ability to read and communicate effectively both oral and written
Basic computer knowledge - Basic knowledge of hand tools and their proper application
Basic knowledge of measuring devices
Intermediate knowledge of blueprint/engineering drawings
Basic math functions - add, subtract, multiply, and divide; ability to use metric measurements

JOB SUMMARY:
The primary functions of the welder include but are not limited to ensuring quality welding maintenance and/or fabrication by performing general repairs on all company equipment in a safe, efficient and productive manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Follow all safety and environmental rules, regulations and procedures as set forth by company policies and MSHA.
Follow all company policies and local, state and federal regulations for safe working procedures.
Perform general maintenance and repair on all company equipment.
Assisting other welders as needed and completing special projects.
Ability and knowledge to operate mobile equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Ability to perform preventive maintenance and pre-shift inspections; repair and/or clean equipment as needed.
Responsible for maintaining a neat and professional appearance of self, shop and work areas.
Ability to comprehend and complete all needed paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
Regular, reliable attendance at the worksite or assigned work location.
Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a safe work history.
Have a positive attitude and proactive approach to our safety program.
Experience using stick and Mig.
Basic experience using oxy/acetylene cutting torch.
Must pass Mechanic I - Welder welding test.
Ability to read, write and figure basic mathematical calculations.
Ability to perform basic plant maintenance.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
Good safety, behavior and attendance record.
The selected candidate will be required to work collectively in a team environment with other co-workers and managers.
Excellent verbal, written and comprehension communication skills.
Willingness to do other work as needed, including heavy labor.
Willingness to work outside in all weather extremes.
Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including swing shift, graveyard shift, over time and weekends as required.
Ability to work near, around or on light or heavy equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lift objects of various dimensions and up to 75 lbs occasionally and 50 lbs frequently.
Ability to repeatedly climb stairs and ladders.

Ability to use vibration producing tools frequently.

Shift: Mon-Thu 3:30am-2am (Some overtime may be required on Friday)
Pay: $17-20 DOE (Plus shift differential)
Responsibilities:
Can complete all periodic machine as assigned by the supervisor.
Can accurately interpret the blueprint, understand weld symbols, and can follow the production traveler. Able to apply this knowledge to the task being performed.
Able to properly set up tig or mig machines; ensuring that all machine parameters are properly adjusted prior to beginning weld operations.
Able to weld cold roll steel (CRS), hot rolled, stainless steel and aluminum assemblies and sub-assemblies according to the print specifications.
Able to set up and run production within the time limits developed on the traveler. Can point out errors on the traveler, prints, or weld fixtures to the supervisor.
Able to perform quality checks according to the print.
Accurately completes all documentation associated with the job prior to moving parts to the next operation.
Maintain good housekeeping standards.
Is a good team member by meeting all safety requirements, attendance requirements and follows the company rules and regulations.
Performs other tasks as directed by the immediate supervisor or management. Advises supervisors immediately on all problems encountered and not resolved.
Physical Requirements:
Able to handle parts up to 35 pounds.
Perform other tasks, within reasonable exertion limits, to assist other shop as required.
Stand for long periods of time.
Capable of safely operating a pallet jack.
May be asked to perform other tasks within reasonable exertion limits to assist other shop personnel in special circumstances.
Minimum Position Requirements:
High school education desired, but not mandatory.
Must be thoroughly familiar with the various welding techniques and the checking of proper equipment operation.
Must be able to adjust tig and mig equipment to produce quality welds on various types of materials.
