PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
Plans and performs a wide variety of welding, layout, cutting, brazing, and soldering operations on a variety of parts, components, and assemblies.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Welds all types of materials in structural and sheet metal sizes and shapes, utilizing a full range of welding processes including, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), plasma and oxyacetylene cutting along with brazing.
Selects rod, wire, tips, and electrodes for a specific operation to be performed.
Fits and positions parts in accordance with drawing specifications using locating fixtures and measuring devices as required. Creates fixtures as needed.
Checks work as necessary to ensure holding prescribed tolerances to maintain quality standards.
Tack welds as necessary and perform all positions of welding, sometimes in confined spaces.
Works from drawings, sketches, welding symbols, specifications, and instructions to plan work in proper operational sequence and determine methods and techniques to be applied.
Identifies job flow problems and causes and recommends corrective action to ensure timely and efficient production effort.
Interprets drawings, sketches, welding symbols, specifications, and instructions to determine methods and techniques to be applied.
Uses care to lay a smooth bead, obtains proper penetration and fusion, displays the ability to manage distortion of weldments, detects defective material, unusual conditions, or operating difficulties, and reports it to the supervisor.
Performs any assembly of products that may be required.
Maintains equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Welds and finishes to customers' specifications, applying various finishes as needed, on all size weldments. Customer appearance is a necessity.
May perform periodic field work per instructed.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY:
Welder qualifications per ASME Section IX and/or AWS D1.1 for GTAW, FCAW, and/or GMAW in Horizontal, Vertical, Overhead, and/or All Positions.
Additional Welder qualifications per ASME IX or other industry consensus standards. Processes such as PAW, SAW, Orbital Welding, or Sanitary Welding. Materials such as nickel alloys or aluminum alloys.
Ability to work on intricate welding processes, both hand and machine, to develop complex fabrications to closely prescribed standards.
Ability to complete Crane and/or forklift training while displaying competency in operating and rigging.
A minimum of 5+ years of welding experience.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Assemble, fabricate, and pipe weld on custom industrial and commercial refrigeration systems utilizing blueprints, customer specifications, written and verbal instructions to perform the following duties. This job description lists major areas of responsibility and additional job activities may be added at any time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
* Pipe weld per ASME B31.5 certification requirements
* Coordinate pipe welding functions per design documentation to meet Zero Zone's pipe weld performance qualifications
* Plan layouts and select equipment for welding operations
* Cut and bevel steel pipe according to blueprints
* Align & secure pipe with components using clamps and tack welding methodologies
* Responsible for maintaining welding tools, equipment, and supplies
* Work with project leads and quality team to ensure systems are built per customer design specifications
* Offer feedback for continuous improvement and/or initiate corrective actions
* Be proactive to maintain or supply anticipated needs of stock or special-order materials
* Review Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and respond as instructed
* Perform pipe weld inspections to verify alignment with standards
* Exercises judgment in the planning and sequence of assigned operations
* Assists in optimizing production processes to reduce waste and promote value add principles
* Analyze and resolve design related challenges with assistance of Manufacturing Engineering team
* Reinforces the team approach to operations with coworkers by treating all people in a fair & consistent manner
* Ensure all cleanup/housekeeping, and safety procedures are followed
* Maintain a positive work environment by consistently achieving goals and reinforcing team approach
* Interact professionally with all departments, vendors, and customers for the betterment of Zero Zone
* Ability to adapt to different skilled work areas as production requires
* Follow attendance expectations and be at work as scheduled

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
* Minimum of high school diploma or GED is required, previous manufacturing experience helpful.
* A minimum of one (1) year of pipe welding experience is required.
* ASME / AWS Pipe Weld certification is preferred.
* Experience with hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools is required.
* Ability to read blueprints and diagrams.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/SPECIFICATIONS:
* Ability to measure accurately using a tape measure.
* Ability to perform simple calculations.
* Experience in pipe fitting and basic knowledge of good refrigeration piping practices.
* Effectively able to communicate with verbal and written skills.

As a Submerged Arc Seam Welder 1, you will:
Fuse (weld) metal pole shafts together by means of Submerged Arc Welding process in the fabrication of steel poles
Performs welding operations requiring most of the following:
Working from prints and drawings or other specifications
Requires a knowledge of welding properties of a variety of metals
Setting up work and determining operation sequences
Welding objects involving critical safety and load requirements
Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment
Make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery
Use hand tools and measuring devices in the performance of work
Move pole shafts using an overhead crane
