Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Must be able to make all welds uniform and clean, and complete work to customer's specifications Read all weld symbols on a blueprint Differentiate between channel, angle, flat bar, square tube, pipe etc. Operating Fab Shop and Machine Shop machinery and equipment; reading job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements Pass basic plate weld test (visual and bend) within specified time requirements, of weld processes used G.M.A.W. - Mild steel: 1G, 2G and 3G position S.A.W. - Sub arc: 1G position Setting stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template Performing minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces Setting up and performing maintenance on fab and machine shop machines and performing burning work Operating any equipment needed to perform job including overhead cranes & forklifts. Must be efficient and productive with time Must maintain an acceptable attendance and safety record Maintain safe environment. Performing other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities): High School diploma or general education degree (GED) 2 years related experience and/or training Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to read and interpret metal rule Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions Must be able to understand implicit and explicit instructions and react favorably in all work situations Must be able to work well in a team environment Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflicts, and make effective decisions under pressure Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and background checks. Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. In order to avoid injury, welders must have both mental and physical dexterity. It is vital that they have spatial awareness and a strong attention to small details. Continuous, and at times, concentrated mental and visual attention where the work is repetitive or duties are diversified and require continuous alertness and/or activity. Requires correctable vision and ability to adjust focus within normal range in order to perform clean and uniform welds and read blueprints. This job position regularly requires lifting, stooping, bending and stretching and use of arms and hands to accomplish grinding, welding and other assigned duties. Requires ability to work at different heights. Requires standing, bending and stooping for extended periods of time. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives. The noise level in the work environment is very loud where ear protection is necessary.
