GENERAL SUMMARY: Welds ferrous and non-ferrous metals. May use GMAW or Resistance Spot Welding processes. Sets own welding machine, changes wire spools, gas cylinders, and does preventive maintenance of welding machine, wire feeder and related equipment. Loads own parts in fixtures, does welding and cleanup. May be responsible for the set-up, maintenance, and operation of robotic (or COBOT) welding equipment. May be required to grind welds. Performs other work as directed by the Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Requires frequent standing and walking on concrete surfaces.
Requires frequent lifting and carrying over short distances of parts weighing 65 pounds.
Requires twisting and turning of the body to load fixtures and to get proper access to weld joints.
May be required to stand for 10 hours at a time.
EXPECTATIONS: You will be expected to obtain the tools listed as "Minimum Required Tools" for your classification. Regular attendance and starting on time are essential. Are expected to pass AWS D1.1 Certification within first 30-90 days of employment. AWS D1.1 Certification is required for Grade B- and higher. Responsible for the quality of your own work and to not accept poor quality workmanship from others. Expected to perform at acceptable quality and performance levels and strive for continuous improvement as described in Full Vision's Quality Policy.

Education: Youth Apprentice, age 16-17, current high school enrollment. Adult Apprentice, A GED or High School Diploma is required. Math worksheet: Minimum score of 15 or Wonderlic test: Minimum score of 18. *Exception can be made with approval of a review board*.

Training: Current enrollment in a Technical Education Welding program
Completion of physical agility test - Passage of drug test - Passage of pre-employment weld test

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Confirm that all parts are available and correct before welding and fitting begins. Any discrepancies or problems are to be discussed with shop foreman.
Lay out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.
Determines required equipment, welding method and welding techniques.
Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
Follow blueprints to arrange metal pieces and temporarily fix them into position before welding.
Assemble parts and tack per prints, drawings or by instruction of supervisor or shop foreman.
Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
Make recommendations for process improvements.
Perform equipment inspections prior to use.
Work with team to balance workload to meet On Time Delivery goals.
Manage company resources to ensure budgetary integrity and client satisfaction.
Deburr and grind metal as necessary to achieve proper surface texture.
Maintain professionalism in speech and action at all times.
Use various hand tools such as cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, tape measures, scrapers, grinders, and other types of finishing tools to ensure a quality product.
Examine work pieces for defects and measure parts to ensure conformance with specifications (weld, clean up splatter, grind areas if needed)
Informs Shop Foreman of any problems with parts or discrepancies with shop drawings.
Prepare items for inspection and notify shop foreman.
Required to follow all company policies.
Other tasks/duties as assigned by Management.
Operate related equipment including forklifts, hoists, and slings.
Keep work area clean, neat and orderly to ensure a safe and efficient workplace.
Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits while preforming the job function.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Continual use of hands, considerable arms, and legs as well as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials.
Must be able to lift and maneuver 50 lbs. without physical restrictions.
Must wear appropriate PPE at all times such as safety glasses, welding helmets, hearing protection, gloves and safety toe boots.
Able to work in hot and cold environments during summer and winter months.

What You Can Expect Working in the Skilled Welder Position
The Skilled Welder is responsible for the fabrication, weld, and final installation of steel components in the production of blast-resistant, modular buildings and other industrial buildings. In this role, you will be required to work with cranes, jigs, torches, plasma, hand tools and welding machines on a continual basis and to meet third-party inspection requirements under AWS compliance standards. EXPECTATIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: You will be expected to obtain the tools listed as "Minimum Required Tools" for your classification. Regular attendance and starting on time are essential. Are expected to pass AWS D1.1 Certification within first 30 days of employment. AWS D1.1 Certification is required for Grade B- and higher. Responsible for the quality of your own work and to not accept poor quality workmanship from others. Expected to perform at acceptable quality and performance levels and strive for continuous improvement as described in Full Vision's Quality Policy.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A GED or High School Diploma is required.
Math worksheet: Minimum score of 15 or Wonderlic test: Minimum score of 18.
Exception can be made on the above with approval of a review board*.
2. Experience: 1 Year of production welding or training is required (see training)
AND/OR
3. Training: Completion of Vo-Tech welding program or equivalent welding program
4. Completion of physical agility test
Passage of drug test
Passage of pre-employment weld test
*Review Board consists of 3 of the following:
HR Manager, Mfg Manager/Production Supervisor, General Manager.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Same as Minimum requirements
Experience: 3 Years production welding using mig welding process
Prior weld certifications
Training: Same as minimum requirements
Testing: Blueprint Test Score - 8
Minimum Weld Symbols Test Score - 4
NOTE: These tests are also used as an indicator in identifying training needs
