Successful candidates will be required to pass a weld test and possess the necessary equipment and protective gear. **_Location is Tampa, FL_** **Responsibilities** + Complete an open-root weld test on a ⅜" plate with a ⅛" gap for both SMAW (⅛" 7018 rods) and flux-core processes. + Ensure proper equipment: Chipping Hammer, Gloves, 4" Grinder, Hood, Safety Glasses, Steel-toed Boots, Welding Stinger with a ⅝" quick connect end, and Wire Pliers. + Wear non-flammable arms and upper body coverage attire (leathers, denim jacket, long sleeve shirt). + Wire wheel any rust or mill scale from the face of the coupon. + Set up coupons in a jig for proper gap placement and tack the backing tabs onto each end of the plates. + Apply weldment to backing tabs to ensure coupons do not separate while welding. + Mount coupons to the welding test booth jig and proceed with the weld test. + Maintain a continuous weld puddle during root pass without whipping the electrode for SMAW or using popping action for flux-core. + Complete filler pass with a 1/16" tolerance at the bevel edge of the test plate for the cap. + Back-gouge test plates, clean up any slag, and re-mount the coupons for final inspection. + Follow all safety and procedural guidelines during the welding process. **Essential Skills** + Proficiency in welding, fabrication, and following detailed procedures. + Ability to pass the weld test on a ⅜" plate with a ⅛" gap for both SMAW and flux-core processes. + Experience with marine repair and blueprint reading. + Proficient in flux core and MIG welding. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + No prior ship/marine experience required. + Must show up with proper PPE and tools. + Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely. **Why Work Here?** We are the largest turnkey ship repair operation in the Gulf, providing opportunities for long-term, full-time employment.
