The Team The Machine Shop Team is a highly skilled group of machinists and fabricators that bring our company's designs to life. The team is responsible for taking raw materials to finished form, while observing dimensional requirements and schedule constraints. The goal is always to produce finished parts that are of higher quality, lower cost, and to make them faster than any other shop! The Opportunity As a Welding Technician, you are skilled in the many types of welding that we utilize - aerospace grade metals, fine tubing assemblies, pipe, heavy structures, and traditional fabrication. Daily use of handheld measurement tools and computerized controls are an integral part of the job and you will work with other welders to ensure we are producing the best possible welds. Basic fabrication skills will come into play as well. Large builds or existing assemblies will require occasional modifications or finishing that requires an experienced touch. Strong communication, attention to detail, and willingness to jump into action are your strong suits as you contribute a large variety of project types. Your priority, along with the rest of the shop team, is to produce assemblies parts faster, cheaper, and at higher quality than anyone else. This is a strong individual contributor role that will report directly to the Development Shop Manager. How You'll Fulfill Your Mission * Interpret dimensioned assembly drawings with fluency in order to ensure that the correct materials and appraoch are used in order. * Produce high performance TIG/GTAW welds in aluminum, stainless, and Inconel. * Operate orbital tube welders (OTW) for creating small assemblies for use in our orbital products. * Fabricate steel frames, platforms, and other structures using MIG, stick, saws, drills, grinders, and other shop tools. * Support your team by participating in design reviews and weld qualification campaigns * Inspect finished assemblies using a variety of handheld inspections tools including calipers and video measurements systems (VMMs) * Assist with special request projects such as shop improvement initiatives and on-site/outdoor rework. Such tasks require high level of communication and cooperation with others. * Communicate with other shop and company personnel in order to ensure a transparent and cooperative atmosphere. * Improve shop effectiveness by identifying bottlenecks and recurring issues. As an aerospace welder, you will be responsible for orbital tube welding of propulsion manifolds and components in a cleanroom environment. Nature of Duties/Responsibilities: * Spot welder Proficient * Calibrating Setup of Spot welding equipment, Fixed or removable electrodes * Maintain and safeguard company-owned equipment and tools * Maintain work area in a clean and safe condition * Experience with high volume of Spot Welding Jobs * Ensure all completed tasks meet the company specified quality standards * Follows work instructions to ensure proper Spot Welding procedures are followed * Setup the Spot Welding machine: ensures set appropriately based on the size of the part * Assemble tools, parts, or kits needed to complete Spot Welding assignments Education and Experience: * High School Diploma or college courses. * Minimum of 4-years of Spot welding manufacturing environment and manual operation experience * Ability to read calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, and other inspection tools as needed. * Able to read blueprints for finish specifications and critical dimensions. * Experienced in a manufacturing facility. * Detail-oriented and efficient; able to multi-task. * Welding experience is desirable. * Able to work under general supervision and follow instructions. * Must be able to set up and maintain all welding machines and tools. * Must be able to lift 50lbs This is an ITAR facility and applicant must be a US Citizen or a lawful permanent resident. Perform (orbital welding) hand welding on SST and Aluminum on vacuum fittings from one-eight to one-half inch. Mechanically inclined. Visual acuity and manual dexterity Ability to handle fragile products, perform repetitive tasks and demonstrate safety awareness. Mini Head experience is a plus. Proficiently use all approved hand gauges to inspect component quality at the work center. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend and lift up to 50lbs Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings, correspondence, and documents. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, percentages, and decimals. Work under normal to moderate supervision. Perform basic set-ups and operate orbital weld system. Perform mechanical set-ups and changeovers for Swagelok welding machines Operate orbital welding equipment and systems in a safe manner. Keep work areas clean and organized and follow safety guidelines. Prioritize work and execute to hit production schedules and or commitments in accordance with direction of leads and supervisors. Work from schedules, shop orders, established procedures, blueprints, and product specifications. Fit, align, and precisely orbital weld product to meet or exceed product/customer requirements, specifications, and workmanship standards. Identify deviations that can potentially interrupt productivity. Maintain logs and other necessary documents. May train less skilled technicians and operators. Measure and verify dimensions using inspection tooling. Complete routing and process planning as necessary Demonstrate ability to process and Inspect 1st piece in accordance to prints. Collaborate with Engineering to develop advanced welding processes as needed. Assist team members to maintain departmental standards including quality goals and on-time delivery goals.
