Wears protective face shield and safety glasses to protect eyes and face. * Adjusts welding machine to achieve desired results within parameters of established welding procedures. Changes tips, ceramic cups, and electrodes in plasma torch as needed to achieve desired cutting results. * Finish weld various products of the unit to keep the product moving through the large pole department in a timely manner. Reads and interprets weld symbols. * Uses oxy-fuel torch to preheat parts prior to welding. Read codes and specifications to determine proper temperature and uses instruments provided to measure temperature. * Uses chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinder, and motorized wire brush at various times to clean welded areas. * Uses pneumatic drills and magnetic drills to drill and ream various sizes holes in poles as required by the drawing. * Wears protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, welding cap, leather sleeves, and/or cape, and welding hood for protection against hot metal, arc rays, grinding debris, and other potentially. * Performs visual inspecting and identifies material discrepancies to assure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications. Uses a weld gauge to measure weld size. * When called for by the drawings and specifications, must produce full-penetration welds as defined by American Welding Society code. Uses air-arc gouger to remove weld defects, and rewelds to meet specifications. * Uses overhead crane to load finished poles into bolsters for transportation out of the pole assembly area. * Welds other products in other areas, using either Flux-Cored Arc Welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding process. * Assist and instructs other welders and fitters when needed to overcome deficiencies in quality and/or productivity. TIG Welder/Fitter: Read prints, fit up, weld thin sheet metals, Stainless Steel, Aluminum, and Carbon Steel. Read tape measure, must have own hood, steel toe boots, gloves.
