You will also be responsible for sweeping, picking, and digging out dust or snow from movable track parts. * Adhering to company and industry safety rules, practices, and procedures at all times. * Building and maintaining positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers. PRECISION LIQUID CONSTRUCTION JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Tank Welder Reports To: On Site Tank Superintendent Summary Welds field erected carbon steel tanks and assemblies with a variety of welding techniques including but not limited to flux-core, sub-arc, and stick as specified by layout, welding diagram, or work order by performing the following duties. Also monitors work of less experienced welders. OUR TANKS CANNOT LEAK. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Safety is always first. An OSHA 10 is a prerequisite for employment. We can / will provide access at our expense to the class. However, time spent taking the class will not be paid. Individuals are expected to prioritize safety of themselves and others. Ability to weld A-36 thick gauge steel - 3/16” to ½” typical thickness with appropriate welding rod. Ability to set welding machine to proper setting for various material thicknesses. Ability to make multiple pass welds able to pass X-ray examination on these thicknesses. Ability to weld lap welds for floor and roof of tanks. Ability to learn to weld multiple pass horizontal and vertical seams of tanks. Ability to accurately position large steel sheets, up to 5/8” X 8' X 30'. Use and accurately read a tape measure. Ability to read blueprints and isometric drawings and understand the scope of work. Works with job site Tank Superintendent to make proper weld method selection. Ability to learn proper flux-core, sub-arc, stick to use for certain types of welds on tanks. Examines weld for bead size, continuity, undercut and other specifications. Lays out, positions and tack welds work pieces. Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter. Monitors/corrects/ensures construction quality. Grinds down welds for proper surface prior to laying down next weld pass. Responsible to keep work area clean and free of debris on a daily basis. Ability and common sense to work in a safe manner. Must follow company safety policies and procedures at all times. Supervisory Responsibilities Assists Tank Superintendent by monitoring work of less experienced welders on crew. Locate and gather Storeroom Personnel staged parts needed for assembly from parts staging area. Frequently pushes, pulls, and lifts up to 50 pounds. * Reads and interprets drawing to assure proper location of various small part attachments. Layout various locations on round tube or formed shaft based upon interpretation of drawings and specifications. * Uses measuring tape, level, square, and angle finders to measure distances and angles. Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides feet, inches, fractions, and decimals. Uses table to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. * Uses plasma torch and oxy-fuel torch to cut steel. Uses jigs made at Sabre/Texas for laying out vang slots and for cutting holes in shafts for inserting hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex, couplings, and other small parts. Wear protective goggles or welding hood to protect eyes from harmful rays. * Moves around round tube or formed shaft as necessary to get into proper position to accurately measure and assemble components described above including standing on elevated platform when necessitated by the size of the shafts. * Uses motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble pole assembly according to prescribed specifications, codes and drawing. Wears protective face shield and safety glasses to protect eyes and face. * Adjusts welding machine to achieve desired results within parameters of established welding procedures. Changes tips, ceramic cups, and electrodes in plasma torch as needed to achieve desired cutting results. * Finish weld various products of the unit to keep the product moving through the large pole department in a timely manner. Reads and interprets weld symbols. * Uses oxy-fuel torch to preheat parts prior to welding. Read codes and specifications to determine proper temperature and uses instruments provided to measure temperature. * Uses chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinder, and motorized wire brush at various times to clean welded areas. * Uses pneumatic drills and magnetic drills to drill and ream various sizes holes in poles as required by the drawing. * Wears protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, welding cap, leather sleeves, and/or cape, and welding hood for protection against hot metal, arc rays, grinding debris, and other potentially. * Performs visual inspecting and identifies material discrepancies to assure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications. Uses a weld gauge to measure weld size. * When called for by the drawings and specifications, must produce full-penetration welds as defined by American Welding Society code. Uses air-arc gouger to remove weld defects, and rewelds to meet specifications. * Uses overhead crane to load finished poles into bolsters for transportation out of the pole assembly area. * Welds other products in other areas, using either Flux-Cored Arc Welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding process. * Assist and instructs other welders and fitters when needed to overcome deficiencies in quality and/or productivity. * Additional duties as assigned Position Requirements: * High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred * Must have knowledge of basic shop mathematics, addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication and decimals. * Proficiency in reading complex prints and specifications. * Must know how to properly use a weld gauge. * Read and write. Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Proven experience as a Structural Welder, with a strong portfolio of completed projects. Certification in welding (e.g., AWS, ASME) preferred. Proficient in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions if necessary.
