ABOUT THE JOB
The Tepa Companies are seeking a Welding Apprentice who will Perform welding tasks under supervision on piping and plate within petroleum operations facilities. In addition to welding, the successful candidate must be able to assist in tasks related to welding such as fit‐up, preparation, repair, inspection, and post weld preparation. As required, the Apprentice Welder will also be tasked to assist with general site work such as loading and unloading equipment and materials, site clean‐up and preparation, mobilization, and demobilization to and from the jobsite, scaffolding erection, general tank construction tasks and other duties as assigned.
This role is intended for recent certified/college graduates who completed their education in welding within the last year or about to complete their welding program. As Tepa continues to grow, we are focusing on hiring recent graduates to begin their careers at our organization with opportunities to receive hands-on learning, mentorship, and growth within the company. This is an entry-level position that does not require previous experience but does require completed education in the particular discipline.
Job Functions:
* Follow welding procedure specifications when welding
* Train and assist with performing quality welds able to pass radiographic examination
* Train and assist with performing quality welds using various welding process, such as TIG, GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, etc.
* Train and assist with producing quality welds with efficiency
* Train to perform or assist with fit‐up and preparation of welds
* Perform or assist with post weld cleanup, inspection, and repair
* Communicate regularly with the Field Foreman regarding issues and concerns on the job site
* Train to determine the required tools, materials and welding methods based on the project specifications
* Assist with the assembly, installation, and repair of pipe components and systems according to specifications
* Inspect all materials, equipment, and tools required to perform the work
* Maintain supplies, equipment, and tools
* Properly prepare materials by clamping, cutting, or applying chemical solutions to piping

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
* High School diploma or GED
* Formal vocational/technical training in GTAW- Gas tuncstin arc welding include basic welding processes and procedures completed in the last year (this role is for recent graduates only)
* Must be able to pass a multi-position weld test utilizing the SMAW process
* Must be able to pass 2 and 3G plate welding tests
* Must be able to perform stick welds on both carbon and stainless-steel plate and pipe
* Must be able to utilize large weld rods (3/16" minimum) in multi-positions in an effective and efficient manner
* Ability to learn to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and written instructions
* Must have a general knowledge of AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards

Purpose
To provide certified welding skills and related functions in the performance of maintenance, repair, fabrication, and installation tasks for the university campus, departments, and facilities.
Responsibilities
Assists plant mechanics in the installation and repair of power plant and chilling station equipment. Works in conjunction with trades or utility personnel. Assists plant mechanics in the installation and repair of power plant and chilling station equipment. Estimates material and labor requirements and orders or procures materials. Follows all safety guidelines pertaining to the equipment and vehicles.
Reads and understands engineering and fabrication drawings, welding procedures, and procedure qualification records. Installs and repairs piping and equipment in accordance with drawings, ASME, AWS, and other appropriate codes. May be required to wear a supplied air or purifying air respirator.
Responsible for performing certified welding in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) pressure containment welding codes and the American Welding Society.
Perform other related functions as assigned. Attends staff, safety meetings, plant operation and maintenance training courses. Trains fellow personnel on operational and maintenance procedures as required. Required to carry University cell phone during work and on-call hours. Follows all University and UEM safety policies and procedures, takes required safety training, identifies and reports safety hazards. Performs work tasks in a safe manner, wears the proper personal protective equipment.
Required Qualifications
High school graduation or GED.
Five years of related journey level experience in welding or completion of formal certification welding program.
Required certification: Employment is contingent on demonstrating the ability to produce sound welds by passing welder performance qualification tests in accordance with the requirements of ASME pressure containment and AWS structural codes as specified by the hiring department.
Welders must also physically demonstrate that they have retained the skills necessary to continue with the above welder certification in conformance with the schedule and requirements prescribed by the department.
If the demonstration is unsatisfactory they must retest. Failure to retest satisfactorily can be grounds for dismissal.
Must complete required Utilities job specific Primedia certification training within 18 months.

Experience in an industrial or university physical plant environment.

WTCE Adjunct Faculty are responsible for teaching workforce related and continuing education classes. Adjunct Faculty are hired in a part-time capacity contingent upon the needs of the department. Classes are offered daytime, evening, and weekends as well as some college holidays. Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Teach program specific Workforce Training and Continuing Education courses.
* Develop curriculum for specific selected classes as needed.
* Collaborate with the Workforce Training and Continuing Education Director to develop continuing education schedules.
