Inspect, erect, utilize, and break down scaffolding in support of plant maintenance and operational duties. Clean up work areas and plant areas as required. May report to the PRC Campus. Lays out, cuts, fits, and installs various metal types (ferrous and non-ferrous) and assembles structural, pressure containment and piping fitting. Assists plant mechanics in the installation and repair of power plant and chilling station equipment. Estimates material and labor requirements and orders or procures materials. Follows all safety guidelines pertaining to the equipment and vehicles. Reads and understands engineering and fabrication drawings, welding procedures, and procedure qualification records. Installs and repairs piping and equipment in accordance with drawings, ASME, AWS, and other appropriate codes. May be required to wear a supplied air or purifying air respirator. Responsible for performing certified welding in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) pressure containment welding codes and the American Welding Society. Perform other related functions as assigned. Attends staff, safety meetings, plant operation and maintenance training courses. Trains fellow personnel on operational and maintenance procedures as required. Required to carry University cell phone during work and on-call hours. Follows all University and UEM safety policies and procedures, takes required safety training, identifies and reports safety hazards. Performs work tasks in a safe manner, wears the proper personal protective equipment. Required Qualifications High school graduation or GED. Five years of related journey level experience in welding or completion of formal certification welding program. Required certification: Employment is contingent on demonstrating the ability to produce sound welds by passing welder performance qualification tests in accordance with the requirements of ASME pressure containment and AWS structural codes as specified by the hiring department. Welders must also physically demonstrate that they have retained the skills necessary to continue with the above welder certification in conformance with the schedule and requirements prescribed by the department. If the demonstration is unsatisfactory they must retest. Failure to retest satisfactorily can be grounds for dismissal. Must complete required Utilities job specific Primedia certification training within 18 months. Preferred Qualifications Experience in an industrial or university physical plant environment. Experience with welding power piping and tubes in power boilers. Experience with repairing rotating equipment. Experience operating cranes, forklifts and personnel lifts. Accuracy in all phases of work performed. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions used in the welding trade. Current certification of welding proficiency and qualifications. Verifies material specifications with Mfg Order and drawing. Manages raw material and consumable usage in an efficient manner. Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety. Problem Solving Proficient with measuring tape. Ability to solve basic math problems. Does basic machine adjustments to achieve tolerance/finish/speed requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Teach program specific Workforce Training and Continuing Education courses. * Develop curriculum for specific selected classes as needed. * Collaborate with the Workforce Training and Continuing Education Director to develop continuing education schedules. * Teach courses at a variety of times and locations, including evenings and weekends. * Develop and utilize a course syllabus for each course following established instructional guidelines. * Advise students in career and program matters. * Provide timely, quality access to students through electronic communication or other appropriate methods. * Strive for continual improvement of student success by planning an optimal learning environment; providing high quality instruction and advising; participating in the development of learning outcomes and in the assessment of students as well as self and applied teaching techniques in order to increase effectiveness; and engaging in ongoing professional development. * Manage learning environments by ensuring that accurate syllabi are developed that incorporate departmental, college and instructor requirements; maintaining attendance records, submitting grades, and providing constructive feedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout the semester; and conducting classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. * Deliver effective instruction by assuming primary responsibility for curriculum development in conjunction with the College's policies and procedures, ensuring both rigor and the quality of instruction; by considering individual differences of students in order to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities; by using the College's digital learning solution to meet the objectives of courses; and by communicating clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of the College's digital learning solution and other available technologies. * Enhance the student's learning experience by integrating concrete, real-life situations into learning experiences to encourage critical thinking, interdisciplinary skills and teamwork; by employing methods that develop student understanding of discipline-specific thinking, practices and procedures, as well as interdisciplinary applications, to create academic literacy; and by working with students and employers in occupational settings as required by or appropriate to the academic discipline. * Collaborate with colleagues across the College in the construction and continuous improvement of measurable learning outcomes to include the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) core curriculum objectives and additional Texas Southmost College's objectives. * Assess student learning by designing assessments that measure or demonstrate student growth; by sequencing learning opportunities throughout advising, courses and programs to build student understanding and knowledge; and by aligning assessment with learning opportunities. * Promote continual improvement as part of the cycle of teaching and learning by developing and revising curriculum as needed and using defined student learning outcomes to plan, develop, document and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching activities. * Support TSC's institutional effectiveness program by understanding the preparation and evaluations of Student Outcomes Assessment Plans (SOAPs); completing all mandatory performance evaluation measures within specified time limits; sharing best practices with colleagues in formal and informal settings; and striving toward improved educational effectiveness. * Support learning through student engagement by creating a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and support for learners. * Maintain a learning-centered environment by being available to students during the designated work period. * Support student learning by making students aware of and referring them to the appropriate student and academic support services available at the College. * Pursue professional development by taking graduate courses or internal classes offered by the College or professional development organizations, as appropriate and by maintaining required professional credentials, licensing, and continuing education hours as disciplinary standards dictate. * Participate collegially in discipline-specific activities developed for adjunct faculty, as appropriate. Attend the workplace regularly, report to work punctually and follow a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite (which may be on campus or at an off-site location).
