Duties and Responsibilities: Must, in order to qualify for this classification, perform highly skilled certified welding of product parts, assemblies and tooling which must pass the most rigid customer and engineering specifications and requirements. Characteristic of this classification is the performance of welding of the complexity set forth herein of any types of metal on all surfaces (including overhead, horizontal, vertical and circular) where the nature of the work requires using, frequently and with consistent regularity, two or more of the following welding processes as a normal assignment gas, inert gas arc and metal arc. Perform fusion welding which requires continuous application of a high degree of mental concentration, sensory alertness and manual coordination to create welds and welded assemblies which must be held within precise dimensional tolerances and the most rigid specifications. Weld various types of metal and alloys together involving the more difficult types of welding and requiring a sound weld and uniform penetration as well as holding critical alignment tolerances which are difficult to maintain due to varying degrees of metal thicknesses and dissimilar melting temperatures at point of weld, such as: Applying dry ice or water coolant to critical areas to control melting temperatures and to minimize distortion, and welding parts or assemblies in "hot boxes" while they are being subjected to high temperatures where a minimum degree of heat must be maintained at all times to obtain a satisfactory weld and to minimize distortion. Weld reactive types of metals together in a sealed changer where, due to equipment problems, the distribution of inert gases and/or vacuum requirements are difficult to maintain to prevent excessive oxidation of materials.
