Clinical Support Technician II (Nursing Assistant II + Clerical) needed for GI Surgery Acute Care Unit - 6 Memorial. 6 Memorial is a 28-bed, acute care, inpatient nursing unit at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. Our interdisciplinary team provides evidence-based and high-quality care primarily to adult post-surgical patients with weight loss issue, gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, and complex non-cancer GI-related illnesses.
Our surgical oncology physician leaders are under the Surgical Oncology Division. This division is affiliated with the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. These physician leaders are nationally renowned for their expertise in improving colorectal, GI, and endocrine malignancy through clinical excellence, medical education, and research. Similarly, our GI physicians are known for their efforts in enhancing patient care for upper and lower gastrointestinal patients. Lastly, we are recognized nationally as a Bariatric Center for Excellence.
Our nursing team members can expect to work within the full scope of his or her practice in a multi-disciplinary setting.
Our patient populations require close post-operative observation, occasional remote cardiac telemetry, early aggressive mobilization, pulmonary hygiene, extensive physical therapies, IV, central line/PICC line care, administration of TPN, anticoagulation, oxygen therapy, pain management, blood product administration, intake/output and ostomy care. Additionally, multiple tube/drain care to include, chest tubes, Foley catheters, NG tubes, G-tubes, J-tubes, J/P drains, and rectal tubes. Extensive complex wound management along with multimodal nutritional support is given throughout the course of hospitalization.
This is a 36 hours per week position; working rotating shifts days/nights (7am - 7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am), with weekend and holiday rotation. This position qualifies for an extensive benefit package including PTO hours, which are accrued based on the number of worked hours.

Summary:

Nursing Assistant I + Clerical (CST I) need for the Surgical Observation Unit. The new Surgery Observation unit, in the new state-of-the-art North Carolina Surgical hospital, is a 15-bedunit, which provides care to a varied adult surgical population to include patients on observation status, extended recovery from PACU, and at times, those awaiting an inpatient bed assignment. Staff members are challenged by the pace of the unit and the many general and specialty services they care for to include such as ENT, Plastics, Trauma, Oncology amongst many others! Teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration are hallmarks for this unit while providing expert "Carolina Care" to the patients and families we serve. Summary:

Third floor nurses will get exposure to wound/wound vac care, tube feedings and tracheostomies and will care for patients with a variety of medical diagnoses, to include:

The Cardiovascular Surgical Stepdown unit is located on the 5th and 6th floors of the Heart and Vascular Hospital. The unit was recently expanded from 24 to 32 beds to accommodate an increase in patient volume. The 6 HV stepdown unit specializes in the care of the cardiac and vascular surgical patient, the structural heart patient, cardiac medical patient, and patients requiring the titration of inotropes and vasopressors while meeting the quality metrics that support Magnet designation.
The design of 6 HV allows for quick access to resources within each workstation. The rooms are all equipped with GE bedside monitors and wall mounted computers for easy access to electronic charts.
Nurses have quick access to cardiac surgery APP's, floor assigned pharmacists, multidisciplinary support through daily rounds, and a consistent case management team that follows surgical patients from surgery to discharge evaluating discharge needs daily. The pharmacy concierge delivery program ensures patients have important medications delivered to the bedside before discharge.
