This is a contractor role with a 3-month term (potential to extend), typically requiring 40 hours/week. This role will require 2-3 in-office days in either of our San Francisco or New York City offices. Occasional domestic or international travel may be required for productions.
What You'll Achieve:
Support end-to-end project management of multiple video productions, ensuring successful delivery against timelines, budgets, and creative objectives
Provide hands-on creative support-from developing shot lists and supporting film days to editing rough cuts and sourcing music tracks
Partner with internal stakeholders to shape video concepts, translating business goals into compelling visual narratives.
Manage relationships with freelancers, vendors, and creative partners while ensuring alignment with project goals
Drive team alignment through clear communication rhythms-from running efficient production meetings to maintaining clear documentation and project visibility with collaborators
Manage robust feedback processes across stakeholders-establishing clear review milestones, and gathering and synthesizing stakeholder input to keep projects moving efficiently.
Skills You'll Need to Bring:
5-8 years of experience in video production at an agency or in-house environment
Industry expertise: Proven SaaS expertise, producing high-quality product demos, customer stories, UI walkthroughs, 2D animation, and motion graphics-with a proven track record of making complex products accessible and engaging
Project mastery: Deep understanding of video production workflows, with proven ability to take ambiguous direction and independently determine project scope, required resources, and execution strategy
Creative versatility: Hands-on experience with video production and post-production, able to jump in on everything from shot planning to editing to keep projects flowing
Team player: Able to balance creative vision with business needs, collaborating across teams to build trust and keep projects moving.
Cool under pressure: Composed under tight deadlines, shifting priorities, and last-minute changes-quick to adapt and find solutions on the fly.
Detail champion: Highly attentive to the small things that make a big impact, ensuring every frame, cut, and transition is polished while maintaining focus on the bigger picture.
Nice to Haves:
Knowledge of Notion a huge plus, especially as a production tool - understanding our product is key to understanding how to tell stories about it
Experience as a content creator or videographer-comfortable operating cameras, capturing audio, and editing content independently when needed
Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects to assist with editing where needed
Experience with live events a plus, but not required

The Opportunity
CZI is seeking a creative individual passionate about social media, content creation, and storytelling to join our Social & Digital Marketing team as a Social Video Producer. This role will be responsible for producing social-first content, with a primary focus on video but also including GIFs, memes, audio, and other multimedia content. The position requires a strong understanding of current social media trends, best practices, and audience engagement strategies- along with the ability to work nimbly, producing high-quality content with quick turnarounds.
The ideal candidate will be skilled in all stages of the production process, effectively conveying our work across science and technology through compelling visual storytelling tailored to a range of audiences.
This role sits within the Brand and Communications team and reports to CZI's Social & Digital Marketing Director. In this role, you will collaborate closely with social media managers, digital marketers, and other stakeholders across the organization to execute storytelling opportunities across our institutes and programs.
What You'll Do
Brainstorm and create engaging content for our social media platforms, including videos, audio, memes, GIFs, and other visual assets.
Write video scripts and develop storyboards that resonate with target audiences and drive engagement.
Film and edit social-first videos, incorporating graphics, music, text overlays, and other platform-specific elements.
Collaborate with social media managers, brand and communications team members, and other stakeholders to align content with broader communications objectives.
Produce video content for advertising campaigns, including for social platforms and pre-roll.
Stay up to date with the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices to ensure content remains relevant.

Compensation
The Redwood City, CA base pay range for this role is $106,000 - $160,000. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time.
