Our career development programfor technician assistants involves a five-tier level system (Entry Level through Level 4) targeted specifically for professional growth in theveterinary workplace. New technician assistants to OSVS will be evaluated based upon previous veterinary experience and assigned a level within our tier system. Once technician assistants master the skills and responsibilitiesat their current level, they will receive further training to advance forward onto the next level. TA responsibilities at OSVS range from general cleaning and stocking to performing thoracic and abdominal radiographs, working in isolationand utilizing isolation protocols, assisting technicians/doctors/surgeons forpatient exams and wet table procedures, morgue duties, and performing in-houselab work such as complete blood counts, serum chemistries, urinalysis, kidneyprofiles, blood typing, and cross matching. Our Level 4 technician assistantsare trained to take vitals and extremity radiographs, perform venipuncture, andplace IV catheters. Level 4 technician assistants confident in thesetasks will advance into our OSVS Technician Assistant to Technician Training Program , preparing them for additional career paths leading to positions inthe ER, ICU or Specialty areas. If you have any experience with patient care, performing laboratory tests, taking radiographs, preparing and assisting in surgery, or assisting doctors with examinations, diagnostics, and treatments, and you possess excellent communication skills and a commitment to providingexceptional patient care and customer service, then now could be theperfect time to further your veterinary healthcare career!
