A Day in the Life of a Banfield Veterinary Assistant
The Vet Assistant provides professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times, making sure that clients and pets are comfortable in the hospital. You will use your technical skills on a daily basis, within state practice acts and as outlined in the NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties. Other responsibilities include:
* Helping maintain the flow of patients
* Communicating with the veterinarian and vet techs
* Carrying out or setting up procedures that do not require veterinarian or vet tech assistance
* Adhering to hospital standards that keep pets safe, and the treatment areas, exam rooms and labs clean and organized

The Importance of the Role
The Veterinary Technician will collaborate with the Senior Veterinary Technicians and Vivarium team to support animal welfare within the Gene Therapy Center of Excellence. The Veterinary Technician will work under the guidance of the Senior Veterinary Technicians to perform treatments and rodent care as required for study and colony management. The Importance of the Role
The Veterinary Technician will collaborate with the Senior Veterinary Technicians and Vivarium team to support animal welfare within the Gene Therapy Center of Excellence. The Veterinary Technician will work under the guidance of the Senior Veterinary Technicians to perform treatments and rodent care as required for study and colony management. We are looking for: Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) A Veterinary Technician Specialist provides primary clinical support to veterinarians and patients. A VTS candidate will collaborate with Veterinary Specialists and local Leadership to advance patient care through aiding in workflow improvements, advancement of processes, assisting in and delivery of training and clinical team member continuing education. The successful candidate is team oriented, thrives in a fast-paced environment, is dedicated to practicing the highest quality veterinary care and is committed to promoting a teaching environment. This position provides an opportunity to work with board certified veterinary specialists and the ability to provide cutting-edge veterinary care in partnership with area primary practice veterinarians. What you'll do:
Perform daily responsibilities of a Credentialed Technician
Respond quickly and calmly to critical situations, and maintain high standards of patient care
Communicating professionally with clients, referral partners and co-workers both in person and on the phone
Ability to develop and deliver in house trainings and continuing education both within MedVet and for the Referral Partner Community
Mentor and onboard new team members
Provide Client and Referral Partner Education
Assist Veterinary Specialists in specialty procedures
Assist in chemotherapy protocols
Drug calculations as they relate to treatment plans
Vertical-flow hood and maintenance
Clinical studies/trials
Extravasation protocols/safety
Administration of chemotherapy, requiring excellent venipuncture skills and IV catheter placement
Coordinate and manage client communication/education via phone and email
Manage appointments, obtain histories, invoicing, patient discharges, scheduling
Accurate and thorough documentation in medical records

Who you are:
VTS Certification from a NAVTA; recognized academy required
Utilize critical thinking skills
Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Essential Functions:
Completes technical tasks such as specimen accessioning, specimen preparation, and processing, and specimen delivery and storage. May include phlebotomy and other specimen collection.
Performs clerical tasks and specimen accessioning in accordance with testing protocols and criteria. Maintains laboratory operations by performing equipment maintenance, quality control, and preventive maintenance.
Performs waived laboratory testing, documents patient reports, quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting appropriately.
Demonstrates knowledge of and upholds applicable laws and regulations related to position and laboratory operations.
Documents daily, weekly, and monthly tasks on assigned work area task lists.
Delivers service excellence and quality patient care through adjusting communication styles to adapt to various cultural differences, addressing client concerns by researching problems and identifying resolutions, using basic troubleshooting skills, and efficiently handling interruptions and functions with changing environments or circumstances.
