Job Summary:
Vertex Pharmaceuticals Technical Operations (Drug Substance) is seeking a Summer Intern to join our team in Boston, MA. The Technical Operations Drug Substance group is responsible for the commercial application of chemical processes to manufacturing active pharmaceutical ingredients, their intermediates and regulatory starting materials to support our Drug Product supply chain. An intern position in our team will offer a variety of opportunities such as understanding the commercial drug substance space; improving technical skills in the lab; handling chemicals; operating laboratory instruments; generating, manipulating and interpreting data using different software; and applying chemical knowledge towards designing experiments.
The intern will support one or more experienced chemist(s)/engineer(s) in performing technical assignments, spend time learning/executing laboratory operations and have unique assignments that support continuous improvement efforts for our commercial supply chain, as well as experience the day-to-day workings of a process chemist/engineer as a part of broader drug substance manufacturing.
Vertex interns will also be given the opportunity to participate in additional activities/events which help them build a strong network within technical operations, supply chain and process chemistry and with fellow interns at Vertex in general.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop project flow plan for the continuous improvement activity and execution
Search relevant literature precedent; apply principles in the literature to the project
Learn how to design an experiment to answer vital questions
Learn to perform small and mid-scale process support reaction using a broad range of techniques and equipment
Learn to perform screening type experiments in parallel
Apply different analytical controls to support experimental results; such as HPLC, TLC, GC, NMR, etc
Work cross-functionally with Technical Operation support teams to aid project completion
Prepare poster/written presentations summarizing work
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled as a graduate student, studying a relevant degree (chemistry or chemical engineering)
Passion for scientific knowledge
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Be highly-motivated and have an excellent work ethic
Experience working in an organic chemistry lab
Candidate for Master's or Ph.D. program
HPLC instrumentation and research experience would be a bonus
Permanent legal authorization to work in the United States

Job Summary:

The Computer Vision team at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking a graduate student for a 10-12 week summer research internship. We are looking for a knowledgeable, self-motivated, and creatively inclined graduate student with a strong interest in computer vision, deep learning, and medical image analysis. The internship will focus on application of segmentation algorithms to histopathology data in oncology. You will focus on the refinement of existing pipelines that perform cell and tissue segmentation and extract biologically inspired features to quantify the tumor microenvironment.
This internship offers the opportunity to work within a cross-functional team in a pharmaceutical environment. In addition to gaining technical exposure through the various projects the team is undertaking, you will also gain valuable insights into how algorithms are developed to support clinical trials under the mentorship of experienced scientists, while contributing to initiatives aimed at improving global health.
Responsibilities:
* Design, develop, implement and validate innovative deep learning solutions addressing high-priority computer vision challenges in medical imaging.
* Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams of scientists, engineers, and clinicians to advance algorithm and product development to improve project outcomes.
* Clearly communicate complex technical methodologies and present findings to diverse audiences and stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
* Prepare and draft manuscripts outlining development methodologies to contribute to the scientific community.
Qualifications - Education and Experience:
* Holding or actively pursuing a PhD or Masters in a field related to deep learning and computer vision, such as computer science, medical informatics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
* Strong publication record with the ability to effectively communicate technical work to a broad audience. Publications in conferences such as CVPR, ICLR, ICCV, ICML, MICCAI, ACL, and NEURIPS are preferred but not mandatory.

Job Summary:
The Clinical and Quantitative Pharmacology (CQP) department at Vertex leads clinical pharmacology and clinical modeling & simulation efforts across all disease areas and clinical phases of drug development. There will be two CQP summer internship positions available with the opportunity to focus on clinical pharmacology (CP) or quantitative pharmacology (QP), depending on the student's experience and interest.
A Vertex CQP summer internship will provide a 12-week hands-on opportunity to experience some of the elements of CQP within drug development. Based on the project, an intern may participate in numerous activities, such as design and conduct of clinical pharmacology studies (e.g., first-in-human, drug interaction, food effect, special populations, ADME), or exploration of drug pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) relationships and related analyses (e.g. population PK or other advanced modeling). Activities the successful candidate may be involved in, depending on the area of emphasis (CP or QP), include: drafting and reviewing clinical study protocols, reviewing clinical study report sections, creating analysis plans, learning to manipulate and create clinical analysis-ready datasets, build and evaluate models, execute analyses, and prepare informative outputs, graphics, and results representations.

Deliverables:
Run an initiative that maximize the access opportunity in select countries/markets to strategically enhance the accessible population, adding/building business channels, adding new indications, increasing reimbursement or relaxing indications restrictions.
Improve Reimbursement and Relax Restrictions: Work on increasing reimbursement rates and relaxing restrictions on product use to make it more accessible to a larger population.
Expand Patient Access: Increase the number of patients who can access the product by adding new distribution channels and building new medical indications.
Introduce New Indications: Identify and introduce new medical uses for the product to expand its reach and benefit more patients.
About You

Basic Qualifications:

Must be able to relocate to the office location and work 40hrs/week, Monday-Friday, for the full duration of the co-op/internship

This Co-Op position will be an integral part of the Supply Chain Technical Operations' new product initiative (NPI) manufacturing team. This role will support new product initiatives of Implant and Instrument programs from a manufacturing engineering perspective focused on externally sourced products across our MedTech Joints Reconstruction platforms in a professional and efficient manner.
This individual will be responsible for supporting operational excellence and engaging with partners to facilitate timely delivery with alignment to the supply chain strategy. Key Responsibilities:
* Support project core team (PCT) members with project timelines, project budgets, development of detailed manufacturing process plans with identified manufacturing equipment/technology selected and assess/implement optimization activities as required.
* Collaborate on the Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/A) reviews with Product Development core team to enhance manufacturability and reduce product cost.
* Conduct process development and feasibility studies with external suppliers assessing process capabilities while ensuring robust and optimized processes are developed.
* Present process development results with project core team members and communicate effectively within project team and to engineering management on process development progress.

Job Summary:
The Clinical and Quantitative Pharmacology (CQP) department at Vertex leads clinical pharmacology and clinical modeling & simulation efforts across all disease areas and clinical phases of drug development. There will be two CQP summer internship positions available with the opportunity to focus on clinical pharmacology (CP) or quantitative pharmacology (QP), depending on the student's experience and interest.
A Vertex CQP summer internship will provide a 12-week hands-on opportunity to experience some of the elements of CQP within drug development. Based on the project, an intern may participate in numerous activities, such as design and conduct of clinical pharmacology studies (e.g., first-in-human, drug interaction, food effect, special populations, ADME), or exploration of drug pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) relationships and related analyses (e.g. population PK or other advanced modeling). Activities the successful candidate may be involved in, depending on the area of emphasis (CP or QP), include: drafting and reviewing clinical study protocols, reviewing clinical study report sections, creating analysis plans, learning to manipulate and create clinical analysis-ready datasets, build and evaluate models, execute analyses, and prepare informative outputs, graphics, and results representations.
