Utility supervisors coordinate maintenance works in buildings. They oversee maintenance work related to utility systems such as electrical wiring, heating, plumbing, ventilation, pipe systems, and many more.

You will recruit and train your maintenance staff and delegate daily tasks. It will be your job to supervise shifts and create reports on the state of the premises and the maintenance tasks that were carried out. You will be responsible for regular inspection of the premises to make sure everything is well maintained and functional, verifying the work of your crew.

No specialized education is necessary to take on this role, but a degree in mechanics, engineering, or a related area from a vocational school will guarantee you get hired easily. Experience in maintenance work will be necessary, though, as well as reliable leadership skills and excellent communication.

Cons

I don't dislike anything about supervising, however the most difficult part of this position for me was managing people. This is a challenge when turnover rates are high.
