Researches and responds to underwriting scenario questions presented by loan officers.
Determines and documents loan approval to Ability to Pay guidelines. Determines file compliance with regulatory application guidelines including Truth in Lending and RESPA and ECOA.
Assures data integrity for HMDA reporting, investor sale, and quality control purposes
Reviews and evaluates appraisal reports, including AVM and exterior inspections, typically as a second-signer.
Identifies loans requiring private mortgage insurance and determines eligibility.
Assists Department Manager with loan closing sign-offs; Pre-Funding Quality Control; and Commitment Letter Review.
Prepares loan denial documentation for second review signatures, if applicable.
Assumes additional responsibilities as requested.

* Develop a sound understanding of the underwriting strategy for areas of responsibility.
* Cultivate strong relationships with brokers, clients, and key industry stakeholders.
* Develop the skills required to manage a portfolio of new and renewal business.
* Collaboratively work with our internal Underwriting, Claims, Risk Engineering, Regional Leadership and Sales & Distribution teams to effectively meet quality servicing standards and to achieve underwriting goals.
* Adhere to portfolio management goals, company guidelines, and objectives to ensure underwriting discipline and book profitability.
* Assist with comprehensive assessments of accounts and ensure timely and accurate file documentation.
* Assist in growing the excess portfolio with preferred casualty business.
* Participating in relevant industry events and conferences.
* Business travel as required to support the above objectives, and the appropriate management of expenses.
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
* Bachelor's Degree preferred.
* Preferred 2-5 years of casualty insurance industry experience, with wholesale excess casualty underwriting experience preferred.
* Strong analytical as well as communication and presentation skills.

For California and NY Only: The base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $145,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications, and work location.

Responsibilities:
Candidate will support the development of the organization's optimal reinsurance solutions as we evolve and embark on new strategic underwriting growth initiatives and opportunities. This will require the consideration of both traditional and alternative reinsurance structures, traditional and alternative reinsurers like insurance-lined securities, investors, and our own capital/surplus when recommending the optimal solution.
Qualifications:
Financial background capable of preparing budget projections for all ceded re costs each year and managing collateralization requirements, including commutation, rollover and strategic deployment of capital.
Excel-based modeling for strategic uses of capital
Firm understanding of FM Global's business model and line underwriting.
Proficient in reinsurance products, with an understanding of market trends and practices that could help optimize the organizations reinsurance strategy
Lead the development of new reinsurance products and the day-to-day maintenance of those created reinsurance products.
Experience in developing and reviewing contractual language, terms and conditions of reinsurance contracts
Participate in underwriting audits performed in Operations offices, as well conduct periodic audits of specific reinsurance areas of the Company's book
Represent Natural Hazards UW, where a light touch/assistance is necessary
Minimum Education: 4 year college degree/bachelors
Preferred Education: MBA/graduate degree
Experience: 10 years in insurance/reinsurance whether from a financial or underwriting discipline
The hiring range for this position dependent on final grade and title is $126,800 to $182,300 USD. The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
