Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and utilization of proper positioning, protocol and techniques to obtain a quality diagnostic image. Identifies normal anatomy and/or unusual findings. Ensures that the equipment rooms are kept clean and properly stocked at all times. Maintains adequate knowledge of all computer systems utilized within their work environment such as RIS, PACS, etc. Reviews prior studies and reports that correlate with the current examination to ensure that special attention are paid to the area of interest in question. Consults with a radiologist regarding suspicious findings prior to releasing the patient so that a determination can be made as to whether or not additional testing is needed. Maintains communication and collaboration with radiologists and other ancillary departments regarding changes in protocol, scheduling of procedures, exams performed and patient flow. SUMMARY Function\: Performs ultrasound examinations of the heart to image two and three-dimensional slices of the heart. Performs accurate assessment of the velocity of blood and cardiac tissue at any arbitrary point using pulsed or continuous wave doppler ultrasound to assess cardiac valve areas and function, any abnormal communications between the left and right side of the heart, any leaking of blood through the valves (valvular regurgitation), and calculation of the cardiac output as well as the Ejection fraction. Scope\: Performs all modalities of Echocardiography, including assessment\: 2D, M-Mode, Color flow and continuous wave doppler, Stress echocardiography, Pharmacological stress echocardiography, Transesophageal echocardiograms. The Cardiac Sonographer performs patient assessments, acquires and analyzes data obtained with ultrasound equipment, provides a summary of findings to the physician to aid in patient diagnosis and management, and utilizes problem solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic information and optimize patient care.
