Essential Performance Responsibilities - Provides direction, consultation, and coordination to ensure comprehensive and sequential curriculum and instruction in reading. - Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and assists teachers in modifying instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs to reach or exceed reading standards and goals. - Documents teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes, develops lesson plans, models the necessary skills to perform assignments; assesses and provide feedback to administration and teaching staff regarding student progress and achievement and the effectiveness of District mathematics curriculum. - Maintains familiarity with district and Ohio State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests. - Provides for continuing improvement of instruction through professional development, cooperation with building administrators, teacher observations and classroom visits. - Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and Teacher for Remedial Instruction, regarding reading assessments and remedial reading techniques; assists, coaches and models effective remedial reading instructional strategies for classroom teachers. - Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for related student activities and achievement as required by district procedures and applicable laws. - Maintains liaison with the State Department of Education, local universities and state and national professional organizations in mathematics. - Coordinates the selection, inventory and ordering of texts, teaching aids, software, supplies and equipment. - Encourages parental involvement in students' education and the benefits of reading, and ensures effective communication with students and parents. - Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees. - Keeps current of developments in teaching reading and provides staff members with assistance and instructional material as appropriate. - Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research. Additional Duties - Performs other related tasks as assigned by the SpEd Director, Principal, and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Qualifications Profile Certification/License: - Valid/Active Ohio Teaching License - Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation. Education - Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. - Masters Degree preferred.
