In the second year, Fellows engage in a school district teaching residency, receiving an additional stipend while gaining hands-on classroom experience. Fellows are placed in elementary schools across Delaware, providing specialized reading instruction to kindergarten through third-grade students who face significant literacy challenges. Fellows play a critical role in building foundational reading skills for students who may not thrive through traditional instruction. Hourly Requirements Full-time: 38-40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (plus planning time) Part-time: 26-28 hours per week: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. OR Tuesday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (plus planning time) Responsibilities Reading Assist Fellows in the Tutors to Teachers Delaware program will: Lead daily one-on-one or small-group reading sessions lasting 30 minutes for up to 10 students. Complete 1,200 service hours per year (900 if part-time), from September 22, 2025 - June 2027. Participate in a three-week, full-time, graduate-level training from September 22, 2025 - October 10, 2025. Develop personalized lesson plans tailored to individual student needs and track progress. Meet weekly with a program manager for support and feedback on teaching strategies. Engage in AmeriCorps community service events, trainings, and projects. Coordinate closely with school staff, following school schedules, including breaks and holidays. Begin coursework at Wilmington University on August 25, 2025, and complete asynchronous M.Ed. coursework while maintaining a 3.0 GPA. Compensation & Benefits Fellows can earn between $20,000 - $50,000 per year in stipends while completing their degree and gaining classroom experience. Through the Reading Assist and Wilmington University partnership, the M.Ed. in Special Education can cost as little as $4,000 after applying all available credits and education awards.
