Physical Requirements:

Position Summary
Thousands of children need extra help to achieve grade level skills and confidence in math. Take action as a tutor because students who have strong foundational math skills are better prepared for success in the classroom, community and workplace.
As a Math Tutor, you'll be placed at a local school where you'll help students in kindergarten through third grade to improve their core math skills and gain confidence. Every day, you'll meet with groups of 2-3 students to provide extra practice and build skills.
With great training and on-site coaching, we'll prepare you to help kids succeed. Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the entire school year. We are currently recruiting tutors for the 2023-24 school year, with the option of beginning in August, October or January.?
This is an AmeriCorps member position with Math Corps and you'll be joining a team of 300 tutors nationwide. Together we're on a mission to multiply a student's future opportunities through math!

What it Takes
Math Corps takes ordinary people and trains them to be great tutors. Anyone can become a tutor as long as they have a passion to take action for kids - and meet the following minimum qualifications.
By the time they begin their service, our tutors are:
Dependable and have a history of good attendance
Able to understand and follow instructions
Open to making improvements based on feedback
Capable of setting a pace and maintain a schedule with students
Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)
Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing
18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States*
Able to successfully complete a background check

Position Overview The successful candidate will be an individual who firmly believes:

Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives, and to free certified professional employees from non-professional duties such as proctoring study halls to enable them to make a contribution to other aspects of the educational program, such as curriculum development. This position is considered non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Primary Responsibilities
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
Assist professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
Assist with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
Assist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.
Accompany students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.
Construct, copy and distribute and use educational materials as needed.
Assist teacher with parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.
Assist students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement if IEP objectives, etc.
Participate in IEP process and serve as resource for the student personnel evaluation team as needed.
Assist students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities.
Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
