Dates: Training June 25, 26, 27. Program runs July 7 through August 15, 2025. (No program on August 8 or 11.)
Payrate: $42.00/hour (for teachers new to the BGCP Summer Learning Program). Approximately 16 hours/week (not to exceed 128 hours for the summer, including teaching, pre-program training, and prep time). This is a seasonal position.
Please note: This position is contingent upon final approval of grant funding.
Certified Elementary or Middle School Teachers (RI certification) needed for a Summer Learning Program for students in Grades 1-7 (rising). Approximately 22 students in each group, organized by grade level. Content areas or specialties desired: K-5 English/Language Arts, K-5 Mathematics, K-5 Science/Technology
Program Summary and Goals:
In partnership with the Providence Public School Department, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence will conduct a 6-week Summer Learning Program at two of our branches this summer. The goal of the program is to advance summer learning for approximately 200 students (rising grades 1-7). Summer Learning Program components include math and language arts instruction aligned with state standards, hands-on activities and other age-appropriate learning experiences. A Teacher Assistant from our current staff provides support for the Teacher in the classroom. The program will feature the iReady curriculum.
Job Responsibilities:
Accountability for Student Achievement
Administer pre- and post-tests.
Assess students' understanding regularly with ambitious learning goals in mind, and take ownership of making necessary adjustments to instruction to reach goals.
Create and modify instructional lesson plans throughout the summer.
Provide meaningful and appropriate feedback.
Maintain progress reports and evaluation tools.
Previous experience with iReady is preferred.
Communicating Content Knowledge
Demonstrate mastery of and enthusiasm for content area and the pedagogy it requires.
Connect students to content in creative and engaging ways that align to common core standards.

Qualifications:
Rhode Island Department of Education-Certified for Elementary or Middle School Education
At least three years of teaching experience, preferably working in an urban, diverse setting
Ability to lesson-plan and submit plans to Summer Learning Program Director every Friday.
Background in summer learning programs, tutoring, or enrichment education is preferred.
Successful experience working with diverse (English Language Learners and Special Education) populations
Comfortable with family engagement tools and strategies
Demonstrated content knowledge for subjects/levels taught
Knowledge and skills in culturally responsive teaching and learning
Exhibit fair and equitable classroom management skills and the ability to engage students effectively.

Additional (optional) Practice Problems will be given each week to give a sense of overall comprehension and boost student confidence.

Compensation:
Tutors will be asked to attend a 2 hour Pre-program onboarding meeting and will be compensated for their time.
Every week tutors will be compensated for their time, both in-person and asynchronously.
Approximately 4 hours per week:
IN-PERSON:
Tutors will be compensated for all time with students:
Two 1 hour in-person sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:20 - 4:20pm
ASYNCHRONOUS:
Tutors will also be compensated for any time they spend to support their students:
(ex. planning for implementation of lessons, reviewing student work and providing feedback - max 2 hrs/wk)
Minimum Requirements:
Experience and confidence in teaching mathematics. Experience teaching middle school mathematics; Completion of or currently working towards a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university; experience dealing with diverse student populations and familiarity working in an urban setting preferred.
