Job Title: Teacher/Mentor - Practitioner Reports To: Site Operations Manager FLSA Status: Exempt SUMMARY This position is responsible to work with a team to build long-term life-changing relationships with urban youth through various program areas such as in-school, after-school, adventure, advanced leadership - career/college prep, and post-secondary in order to teach in the classroom instruction in character, leadership, and life-skills and engage with the students (outside of the classroom) as a mentor utilizing social/emotional learning. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: · Establishes and builds trusted mentoring relationships with all students in caseload with the goal of producing positive, life-changes in urban youth and build community leaders. · Teaching the pre-developed UpLift curriculum and manage the classroom professionally in accordance with the UpLift standards after a training period of 6 months and supporting the school district educational needs. · Participate, be attentive and present, and arrive on-time to meetings, classes and other organization-sponsored activities/events. Participate and lead in bonding activities consistently with caseload of students. Engage as an integral part of the area team to support the mission and vision of the organization. · Organize and plan time effectively to be fully prepared to teach classroom lessons, checking emails in a timely manner, and communicating effectively with teammates. · Handle administrative tasks and record-keeping with strong accuracy related to grading and reporting in consistent and timely manner. Must have the ability to thrive in a team environment. · Demonstrates the ability to organize and deliver lesson plans and deliver the basic UpLift curriculum in a team teacher environment as well as having the ability to learn and teach new skills. · Engages with Strong Administrative and Computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Google Docs, Outlook Email/Calendar, Salesforce, and various communication and online teaching platforms (such as Zoom, Teams, Web-X, SalesForce, Infinite Campus, etc.) HOURS AND AVAILABILITY: Staff members must be available Monday through Friday (8-5) for various classroom related activities and teaching 1-2 classes a day. Additionally, there is some availability needed on the weekends for the mentoring aspect of the position in activities that are outside the normal work week. Also, it is probable that there will be a need for consistent availability for after-school mentoring activities 3-5 days a week at various hours (outside of the typical 9-5) depending on the activities or needs of the students. Although there is a great deal of flexibility needed, the organization also recognizes the need for a strong work-life balance and will work with employees to ensure that the workload is effectively shared to provide for enough time off. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus two years of experience in a coaching/mentoring capacity, or Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred. What you'll be doing as a Behavior Therapist Apply the principles of one-on-one ABA therapy to help children with Autism reach their full potential by reading treatment plan and program descriptions, implementing treatment in line with written description, collecting data, writing insurance notes, and implementing feedback provided by the supervisor during observation sessions. Tutors commit to a term of service and receive rigorous training plus ongoing expert coaching throughout the year. With the use of rich data assessments, they ensure their efforts produce the desired results - helping children achieve grade-level math proficiency. POSITION SUMMARY This is an AmeriCorps service member position within an AmeriCorps program, Colorado Math Corps. The 4-8 Math Corps Tutor is placed at one elementary or middle school to provide supplemental math skills practice to small groups of students in fourth through eighth grade. The tutor will use scripted, evidence-based math strategies and conduct progress monitoring assessments to ensure students are on track to reach proficiency. Members also participate in professional development opportunities at their service sites which vary depending on the site. SERVICE LOCATION CYC AmeriCorps members are placed at one school during the term of service. Placement will be determined based on the needs of the member and the needs of the school. Typically, member location and mode of transportation are the biggest consideration. Although members are placed at one school, there will be regular opportunities to connect as a larger team with other fellow Math Corps members. Service sites are located throughout the state of Colorado. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Interest in education, specifically helping children develop math skills. Dedication to community service. Strong planning and time-management skills. Strong capacity to be flexible and adaptable to varied circumstances, paired with a conscientious commitment to adhere to the Math Corps tutoring model with fidelity. Consistent follow-through. Ability to accept and incorporate constructive feedback from coaches and program staff. Ability to work with all identities. Open to learning and unlearning. Ability to adapt to a sometimes challenging and high-pressure environment. Schools may benefit if a member is bilingual - particularly Spanish/English. BENEFITS Free and immediate health insurance through Corps Network - Cigna. Living allowance of $1,326 pretax distributed on the 3rd and 18th of every service month. Eli Segal Education Award (can be used to pay future tuition or federal student loans) of up to $5,176.50 for completing the 1200-hour term (for members starting in August). Bus pass for everyday commute for members utilizing public transportation OR mileage reimbursement for members utilizing a personal vehicle for any miles traveled during the school day (this DOES NOT include reimbursement for daily commuting to and from service site). Members participate in professional development and training to learn to best support students. Access to the Member Assistance Program (MAP) that provides free, confidential, 24/7 phone counseling to members and 3 free in-person or telehealth sessions with a licensed clinician. Federal Loan Forbearance - AmeriCorps will pay off interest that is accrued during your term of service on all eligible student loans.
