The Office of Student Success provides peer tutoring for students in various subjects and has a tutoring and learning center on the second floor of Wiley Hall. Tutors will hold open office hours weekly for students to walk in and/or make appointments in the tutoring and learning center, or in the library if Wiley Hall is closed (weekends). Tutors will not grade or complete assignments for students, but they will help the student understand the subject matter and/or review already graded assignments with the student. Tutors will be expected to attend training sessions and keep records of time worked and tasks completed.
Peer tutors work one-on-one with students for up to 30 minutes individually and can schedule appointments with students for longer periods of time. Tutors hold consistent office hours every week to allow referrals from faculty and staff. These tutors will clock in and out for each shift and will report the number of students and subject(s) covered in each appointment/walk-in session (activity log).
Peer tutors will hold their office hours in the Tutoring and Learning Center on the second floor of Wiley Hall. If Wiley Hall is closed, students can hold tutoring office hours in the library when the library is open. Students will work no more than 10 hours per week.
- Provide tutoring in designated subject(s) (Math, Bio, Chem, etc)
- Hold tutoring office hours regularly each week of the semester (14 weeks)
- Attend any training sessions held for tutors by the Office of Student Success
- Clock in and out
- Fill out an activity log for each “shift” for data collection
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Have a minimum of 3.0 overall GPA and have completed the foundational level courses in the subject to provide tutoring.
