Translation:
Can accurately translate reports/texts in electronic and hard-copy formats that not only contain facts but also some abstract language showing an ability to capture intended implications and many nuances. Can generally capture geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural elements in text. Word choice and expression generally adhere to target language (TL) norms and means of expression specific to subject field (s) and are strong enough to allow translator to operate successively in that field.
Interpretation:
Able to interpret accurately. Normally consecutive interpretation is needed, but on rare occasions simultaneous interpretation may be requested Has good understanding of one or more regional dialects.
Transcription:
Reviews audio or internet materials, transcribes with high degree of accuracy and expression. Must possess excellent English-language written communication skills for preparing reports. Has good understanding of one or more regional dialects.
Gisting/Summarizing:
Is able to identify and accurately summarize factual points as well as abstract concepts. Can triage documentation to isolate pertinent and nuanced info. Master use of reference materials. Must possess computer skills; including MS Office, to be able to produce written translations and products and sufficient internet skills that will allow basic research on the Web. Must possess excellent English-language verbal communication skills for giving briefings.
Security Clearance Requirements:

Education Requirements:

LEVEL OF EDUCATION

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Preferred: Award or Certificate of Completion in Healthcare Interpreting Program offered by an accredited program. Certified in the target language by the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters or the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Minimum: Successful completion of CH Interpreter Competency Assessment Tool for Interpreter- Healthcare. Basic user of MS Word, Excel and the internet.
Preferred: Native fluency in English and other working languages, including knowledge of healthcare terminology, basic anatomy and physiology.
YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum: 1 year of interpreting experience or 2 years of work experience in a healthcare setting. Preferred: 2 years of interpreting experience in a healthcare setting

Position Highlights:
The Japanese translator is responsible for the translation of copy and daily correspondence from English to Japanese, and vice versa, with speed and accuracy. This position will also provide interpretation support from English to Japanese, and vice versa. Additional responsibilities include linguistic-based customer service for members and partnership with internal stakeholders to provide cultural expertise.
What You'll Do:
- Translation of correspondences and publications which would include handling voice-over and subtitling in Japanese required for the association’s media productions.
- Simultaneous interpretation at the board meetings, international convention, seminars, and other meetings as well as providing assistance at the executive level
- Handling of administrative duties, such as processing of reports, award issuance, record keeping and additional administrative duties as assigned
- Assisting other divisions and departments with their language needs.
- Provide association staff and volunteers with cultural expertise
- Conducting headquarters tours for non-English-speaking visitors
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
We're Looking for Someone With:
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferably from home country) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A minimum of 2 years of translation experience
- Prior interpretation experience is preferred
- Excellent command of English and native ability to speak, read and write in Japanese
- Familiarity in history, culture, tradition, etc., and up-to-date knowledge of life in Pacific- Asia
- This position requires travel, domestic and international, approximately 5% of the time
