This is a temporary role anticipated from early June through mid-September that will have a role in designing, coordinating, and evaluating our training experiences, including in-person workshops and virtual webinars.
The ideal candidate has experience working as a journalist and is passionate about ongoing education, thrives in a collaborative environment, and excels at juggling multiple projects and deadlines. This role is primarily in person, with some remote work available. Candidates interested in fully remote positions will not be considered.
Key responsibilities:
Program Development: Collaborate with Institute leadership to design engaging, relevant professional development programs that meet the evolving needs of journalists.
Event Coordination: Manage logistics for webinars and in-person workshops, including scheduling, speaker/instructor coordination, venue setup (for in-person), and technical support (for virtual).
Outreach & Promotion: Develop and implement outreach strategies to promote training opportunities via newsletters, social media, and partnerships.
Participant Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for attendees and speakers before, during, and after events.
Evaluation & Reporting: Track participation, gather feedback, and assess program outcomes to inform future trainings and support grant reporting.
Special Projects: Support project-specific needs related to journalism training initiatives, including research, content development, and stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in event planning, adult education, or program coordination, preferably in a journalism, media, or nonprofit setting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
Experience using virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom) and communication tools (e.g., Slack, Constant Contact, Canva, social media platforms).
Knowledge of and commitment to the journalism profession.
Ability to work on site in Washington, D.C., with occasional flexibility for remote tasks.
