Mid-State Sales is seeking to add an experienced, capable, and motivated TIG Welder to our ISO 9001 certified production facility.
As a TIG welder with Mid-State, you will aid in the production of hydraulic fluid conveyance products, such as carbon steel tubing and end connections, as well as stainless steel and aluminum products. Our fluid conveyance products are designed to operate under high pressure, so previous experience and a quality conscious mindset are necessary.
Mid-State utilizes Miller welding equipment, and our TIG welder should be well versed in TIG welding techniques, machine setup, and process needs. Other aspects of this role include silver brazing, preparatory cleaning, and braze scale cleaning after certain processes. In-house fabrication and repair work is occasionally necessary as well.

Position Description
Perform welds utilizing GTAW, GMAW, SMAW and FCAW processes based on applicable technical drawings, procedures and specifications. (MIG experience may be trainable)
Pass a standardized welding test and maintain qualifications from a Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) for the welding process, material type, size and position being welded.
Perform welding operations using the variables qualified under a company Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).
Proficiency in welding on Mild steel, Chrome alloys, stainless steel, and Inconel.
Proficiency in performing open root pipe welds in all positions with all types of filler metals
Proficiently manipulate welds using pulse, short arc and spray modes.
Check interior and exterior surfaces of weld for visual defects during and after completion of the weld such as weld wire protrusion, cracks, undercuts, and lack of penetration, etc.
Demonstrate knowledge of proper pre-heat and interpass maintenance with the use of temperature indicating devices including but not limited to; temperature indicating crayons, surface temperature pyrometer, thermocouple, etc.
Able to weld an open root butt weld with/without back purge in pipe sizes ranging from 1 OD to 72 OD.

Applicant must be proficient in the field of welding. Previous 3G and 6G certification is preferred. Experience in pressure vessel welding is helpful. Our weld processes include both TIG and MIG welding of heavy copper plate up to 2” thick and copper forgings. An ideal candidate should have experience welding copper to dissimilar metals such as steel, stainless steel, nickel and aluminum bronze. A candidate should also have familiarity with both the GTAW and GMAW process and have worked with a tungsten control program. We will train on site to develop some of these skills if a person's weld test shows natural.

Scope of Responsibility:
This position performs production within prescribed codes, and according to prescribed procedures, specifications, and drawings. Must complete Welder Training Program.
Essential Duties:
* Ability to plan, organize, pay attention to details and multi-task in a fast paced work environment

* Uses the Flux Cored Arc Welding process to tack weld various small components to round or formed shafts to make a pole assembly for the welder to weld. The pole assembly generally consists of a round tube or formed shaft, baseplate, hand hole, arm mounting simplex, tenon top, vangs, step lugs, ladder clips, and/or other small parts.
* Works in Large Pole department on individual fitter station to assemble pole assembly. Assist material handler in loading round tube or formed shaft on individual fitter station.
* Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed to assemble pole assembly. Locate and gather Storeroom Personnel staged parts needed for assembly from parts staging area. Frequently pushes, pulls, and lifts up to 50 pounds.
* Reads and interprets drawing to assure proper location of various small part attachments. Layout various locations on round tube or formed shaft based upon interpretation of drawings and specifications.
* Uses measuring tape, level, square, and angle finders to measure distances and angles. Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides feet, inches, fractions, and decimals. Uses table to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.
* Uses plasma torch and oxy-fuel torch to cut steel. Uses jigs made at Sabre/Texas for laying out vang slots and for cutting holes in shafts for inserting hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex, couplings, and other small parts. Wear protective goggles or welding hood to protect eyes from harmful rays.
* Moves around round tube or formed shaft as necessary to get into proper position to accurately measure and assemble components described above including standing on elevated platform when necessitated by the size of the shafts.
* Uses motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble pole assembly according to prescribed specifications, codes and drawing. Wears protective face shield and safety glasses to protect eyes and face.
* Adjusts welding machine to achieve desired results within parameters of established welding procedures. Changes tips, ceramic cups, and electrodes in plasma torch as needed to achieve desired cutting results.
* Finish weld various products of the unit to keep the product moving through the large pole department in a timely manner. Reads and interprets weld symbols.
* Uses oxy-fuel torch to preheat parts prior to welding. Read codes and specifications to determine proper temperature and uses instruments provided to measure temperature.
* Uses chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinder, and motorized wire brush at various times to clean welded areas.
* Uses pneumatic drills and magnetic drills to drill and ream various sizes holes in poles as required by the drawing.
* Wears protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, welding cap, leather sleeves, and/or cape, and welding hood for protection against hot metal, arc rays, grinding debris, and other potentially.
* Performs visual inspecting and identifies material discrepancies to assure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications. Uses a weld gauge to measure weld size.
* When called for by the drawings and specifications, must produce full-penetration welds as defined by American Welding Society code. Uses air-arc gouger to remove weld defects, and rewelds to meet specifications.
* Uses overhead crane to load finished poles into bolsters for transportation out of the pole assembly area.
* Welds other products in other areas, using either Flux-Cored Arc Welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding process.
* Assist and instructs other welders and fitters when needed to overcome deficiencies in quality and/or productivity.
* Additional duties as assigned
