Previous 3G and 6G certification is preferred. Experience in pressure vessel welding is helpful. Our weld processes include both TIG and MIG welding of heavy copper plate up to 2” thick and copper forgings. An ideal candidate should have experience welding copper to dissimilar metals such as steel, stainless steel, nickel and aluminum bronze. A candidate should also have familiarity with both the GTAW and GMAW process and have worked with a tungsten control program. We will train on site to develop some of these skills if a person's weld test shows natural. We are willing to consider candidates with all levels of experience Qualifications: Must be self-managing, dependable, and possess the ability to work to production rates and deadlines. * Must be comfortable with various materials including aluminum, stainless steel, and steel. * Ability to read and use micrometers, and dial calipers accurately. * Operates welding equipment to join metal components together using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), also known as tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding and gas metal arc welding (GMAW), sometimes referred to as metal inert gas (MIG) welding * Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials. * Clamps, holds, tack-weld, grind, or bolts component parts to obtain required configuration and position for welding. * Use part specific fixtures when provided. * Welds components in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions. * Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straight edges, templates, and/or tape measure to ensure conformance with order specifications and/or drawings. * Set up and operate welding equipment for most efficient operation. * Examine weld for bead size and quality of weld. Clean off excess weld spatter. * Manufacture and inspect part to blueprint specifications. * Perform first piece, in-process and last piece inspection per print. * Operate welding and all other tools/fabrication equipment, grinders, buff wheels in a safe manner.

The pole assembly generally consists of a round tube or formed shaft, baseplate, hand hole, arm mounting simplex, tenon top, vangs, step lugs, ladder clips, and/or other small parts. * Works in Large Pole department on individual fitter station to assemble pole assembly. Assist material handler in loading round tube or formed shaft on individual fitter station. * Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed to assemble pole assembly. Locate and gather Storeroom Personnel staged parts needed for assembly from parts staging area. Frequently pushes, pulls, and lifts up to 50 pounds. * Reads and interprets drawing to assure proper location of various small part attachments. Layout various locations on round tube or formed shaft based upon interpretation of drawings and specifications. * Uses measuring tape, level, square, and angle finders to measure distances and angles. Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides feet, inches, fractions, and decimals. Uses table to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. * Uses plasma torch and oxy-fuel torch to cut steel. Uses jigs made at Sabre/Texas for laying out vang slots and for cutting holes in shafts for inserting hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex, couplings, and other small parts. Wear protective goggles or welding hood to protect eyes from harmful rays. * Moves around round tube or formed shaft as necessary to get into proper position to accurately measure and assemble components described above including standing on elevated platform when necessitated by the size of the shafts. * Uses motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble pole assembly according to prescribed specifications, codes and drawing. Wears protective face shield and safety glasses to protect eyes and face. * Adjusts welding machine to achieve desired results within parameters of established welding procedures. Changes tips, ceramic cups, and electrodes in plasma torch as needed to achieve desired cutting results. * Finish weld various products of the unit to keep the product moving through the large pole department in a timely manner. Reads and interprets weld symbols. * Uses oxy-fuel torch to preheat parts prior to welding. Read codes and specifications to determine proper temperature and uses instruments provided to measure temperature. * Uses chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinder, and motorized wire brush at various times to clean welded areas. * Uses pneumatic drills and magnetic drills to drill and ream various sizes holes in poles as required by the drawing. * Wears protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, welding cap, leather sleeves, and/or cape, and welding hood for protection against hot metal, arc rays, grinding debris, and other potentially. * Performs visual inspecting and identifies material discrepancies to assure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications. Uses a weld gauge to measure weld size. * When called for by the drawings and specifications, must produce full-penetration welds as defined by American Welding Society code. Uses air-arc gouger to remove weld defects, and rewelds to meet specifications. * Uses overhead crane to load finished poles into bolsters for transportation out of the pole assembly area. * Welds other products in other areas, using either Flux-Cored Arc Welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding process. * Assist and instructs other welders and fitters when needed to overcome deficiencies in quality and/or productivity. * Additional duties as assigned Position Requirements: * High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred * Must have knowledge of basic shop mathematics, addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication and decimals. * Proficiency in reading complex prints and specifications. * Must know how to properly use a weld gauge. * Read and write. Physical Requirement * Must be able to stand 100% of scheduled shift.
