The Chapel company history timeline

1997

Located in a “swallow’s nest” gallery, the Brombaugh organ (1997) in the Memorial Chapel is modeled after late Renaissance Italian instruments.

2003

In June of 2003, the Green Campus opened its doors and The Chapel officially became ‘One Church, Two Locations.

2009

Knute officially passed the baton to Paul in June 2009.

2012

In 2012, Paul announced that God was calling him away from The Chapel.

2015

In 2015-16, Duke University invested $19.2 million in a significant restoration of the Chapel.

2018

On August 16, 2018, Duke President Vincent Price, with full support from the Board of Trustees, announced that the university would leave the space empty as a reminder of our need to reflect on "how the reality and symbols of our past continue to shape our present."
