The position provides equipment maintenance, installation, and repair services, involving several craft skills (including electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, and refrigeration) necessary for the upkeep of campus dining and support facilities. May be assigned to evening or weekend schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
* Maintains, diagnoses, and repairs a variety of major appliances and related equipment in kitchens such as walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, ice makers, ovens, food mixers, salad cutters, food carriers, compactors, electric ranges, dish-washers, scales, steamers, food fryers, steam kettles, steam tables, food warmers, softeners, and various other parts and components as necessary.
* Performs routine preventative maintenance on food service equipment and refrigeration: clean condenser and evaporator coils, change filters, inspect and replace belts, test softeners, and clean equipment.
* Performs the skilled mechanical work required to maintain, install, troubleshoot, and repair a wide variety of gas and electric, commercial kitchen equipment and major appliances. Repair equipment on location when necessary.
* Maintains current repair/service log of University kitchen equipment.
* Orders repair parts and complete required paperwork
* Troubleshoots and repair refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing equipment as necessary.
* Measures, cuts, and solders copper water pipe up to 2".
* Unstops sinks and sewer lines using drain cleaners and chemicals in a safe manner.
* Maintains satisfactory and harmonious relationships with the public and fellow employees each day to assure and sustain quality service and appropriate interactions with others.
* Participates in on-call rotation schedule
* Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school diploma or GED required; Completion of CFESA certification or other trade program desirable
* Three years of direct work experience as an equipment repair technician or successful completion of a trade school program required.
* Universal EPA Certification required.
* Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
* Must maintain a valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance, and complete the University Van Driver Training within 90 days of employment date.
* Must be able to work day or evening shift and weekends.
* Proficiency in speaking, writing, and reading English.
* Proficient with electrical and refrigerant test instruments: voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, refrigerant gauges, etc.
* Experience in reading and interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams required.
* Possess eyesight in both eyes corrected to 20/20; ability to pass a PIPIC test for color blindness
* Possess normal hearing ability (may be corrected).

Electronic Technician (Traffic Signal Maintenance)

Under immediate supervision, is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintaining, programming and troubleshooting a diverse range of traffic control devices and communications equipment ranging from L.E.D. equipped signal heads to programmable traffic signal controllers. An employee in this class will work under close supervision in the installation and maintenance of various video detection systems and components, to include solar powered school flashers, battery backup units, high speed wireless communication devices as well as a multitude of other advanced electronic and electrical devices related to the traffic signal field. Working conditions are inside and outside with exposure to various weather conditions and high traffic areas. This position is subject to being on call for emergency repair work after normal work hours and on weekends.

Essential Job Functions
* Troubleshoots, repairs, upgrades and maintains traffic signal equipment.
* Implements scheduled comprehensive traffic signal preventive maintenance activities.
* Provides response maintenance for traffic signal equipment in response to malfunctions resulting from vehicle crashes, weather events, vandalism, power outages or other uncontrollable phenomenon.
* Exercises technical expertise identifying equipment malfunction, developing corrective measure and adequately executing them.
* Ensures all work performed is completed and in compliance with City and industry standards.
* Provides periodic updates on all assigned traffic signal maintenance activities.
* Documents all work performed in the field and in the shop and submits reports to supervisors.
* Performs administrative duties as required by the section.
* Furnishes Electricians with tools and materials as required, occasionally lifting and carrying equipment weighing 25 pounds.
* Assists the Electrician in repairing electric motors and generators; installing inside wiring; installing, repairing, and connecting or disconnecting transformers and similar power station equipment and local communication systems.
* Operates tools and equipment of the electrical trade to assist the Electrician in constructing service meter loops on exterior of buildings and any service cable or wiring in conjunction with exterior work.
* Drives truck hauling tools and materials as required; mixes and pours concrete when required.
* Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
* High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
* Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
* One (1) year of electronics or electrical experience.
* International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Certification.
