Job Summary
Based at our overnight summer camp, the Camp Facilities Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and improvements to camp buildings, equipment, and grounds. This role requires skills in carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and general facility upkeep to ensure a safe and functional environment for campers and staff. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who enjoys working outdoors and maintaining camp facilities in top condition.
The Camp Facility Technician will be supervised by the Camp Director.
Responsibilities
Perform general repairs and maintenance on camp buildings, including cabins, restrooms, and recreational areas.
Carpentry: Repair and install wooden structures, decks, fences, tent platforms and furniture.
Electrical: Troubleshoot and repair minor electrical issues such as lighting, outlets, and basic wiring.
Plumbing: Fix leaks, maintain water supply systems, and unclog drains as needed.
Conduct routine inspections of camp facilities to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
Assist with seasonal setup and breakdown of camp, including moving furniture, installing/removing fixtures and securing buildings.
Maintain an orderly inventory of tools, supplies, and materials, reporting needs for replenishment.
Respond to maintenance requests from staff and address urgent repairs promptly.
Work collaboratively with camp leadership to maintain a clean, safe, and well-functioning environment.
Perform all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory guidelines, including local, state and federal as well as BCNY standard policy and procedures.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; vocational training in carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work preferred.
4+ years of experience in general maintenance, construction, or facility repair.
Experience working in a camp, school, park, or similar environment is a plus.
Ability to safely operate power tools, hand tools, and maintenance machinery.
Knowledge of basic safety regulations and compliance with building codes.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and remain on feet for extended periods.
Valid drivers license preferred.
Certifications in OSHA safety, CPR/First Aid (preferred but not required).
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The Building Maintenance Technician will complete required PMs and repairs on the client's facility equipment. This position is crossed trained and utilizes a flow to the work concept. Perform as a Multi-Craft Technician other duties onsite, such as plumbing, HVAC, and general building maintenance as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs preventive maintenance activities on facility following written instructions. PM activities include measurement of wear, replacement of expendables (i.e. belts, hoses, fluids, filters, etc.) and inspection/evaluation of operating characteristics such as speeds, pressures, vacuum, or vibration
Analyzes findings during PM and recommends changes to PM content based upon findings
Documents PM activities within the CMMS
Completes assigned work orders and documents completion within the CMMS
Completes repairs on all assigned HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and other equipment
Completes general building repairs, including repair and painting of walls, doors, floors, etc
Completes repairs to plumbing system including fixing leaks and stoppages, repairs or replacement of sinks, piping, valves or drains
Repairs and maintains controls, lighting, and electrical distribution systems
Replaces lighting components, ceiling tiles, and grid throughout the buildings
Performs shift "rounds" using a checklist to document performance characteristics (i.e., operation modes, pressures, temperatures, RPM, etc.) of facility systems and equipment
Communicates directly with the customer and site lead in assuring that all aspects of a work request are understood that parts must be ordered, or that requested completion date will be delayed for any reason not discovered during the conversion of the work request into a work order
Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, motor starters, MCC panels, MCC circuits, variable frequency drives and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables
Maintains building lighting, task lighting on furniture systems, parking lot lighting, lighting contactors, emergency lights/exit lights, 120-volt outlets, photoelectric eyes for exterior bldg. lighting and lighting contactors that are controlled by the energy management system
Performs PM & repairs on dock equipment - Overhead doors, dock levelers, dock locks and seals
Maintain a safe and clean work area. Demonstrate basic safe work practices based on company and customer policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Minimum of five to seven years mechanical experience, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry required; or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
Three to five years' maintenance experience
Valid driver's license
