We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technical Assistant to join the Transportation Research Operations section of the Engineering Operation and Facilities division (EOF). Argonne National Laboratory's Advanced Mobility group (AMTL) supports the U.S. Department of Energy in evaluating technologies, developing transportation policies for petroleum displacement, optimizing advanced technologies for commercial use, demonstrating alternative fuel benefits, and providing unbiased research results for various stakeholders. The EOF division partners to provide vital technical support to Argonne's Transportation and Power Systems (TAPS) division. The selected candidate will be deployed, working at Argonne's Advanced Mobility Technology Laboratory, supporting vehicle laboratory and on road testing of light to heavy duty vehicles. As an Engineering Technical Assistant, you will be integral to advancing vehicle research by coordinating and conducting the design, setup, and operation of electrical and mechanical vehicle systems. Your work will support experimental testing on conventional, electrified, connected, and automated vehicles, as well as new mobility modes such as drones and micro-mobility solutions. You will oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of chassis dynamometers and other essential test equipment. Reporting to the Supervisor, performs duties related primarily to services to school districts with English learner, bilingual education, and immigrant students; provides technical assistance to school staff on meeting the needs of their students; reviews grant applications and other documents; reviews programs for compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations and performs other duties related to the implementation of programs for this student population; assists management in the administration of programs assigned to the department; participates in or organizes meetings related to department activities; prepares or oversees the preparation of reports, correspondence, papers and other documents; facilitates and organizes statewide professional development related to English learners and bilingual education. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Reviews and approves grant applications, plans, program delivery reports, amendments, and other reports or evaluations submitted by districts. * Assists in developing applications and implementing one or more federal or state funded programs to ensure their effectiveness. * Assures school and district compliance with all programmatic and fiscal regulations as related to laws and grants including, but not limited to, Title III and EL-EBF. * Leads in planning and implementation of professional development statewide for educators and communities. * Provides technical assistance to the field consistent with best practices and in alignment with all applicable rules, regulations, and laws as applicable to English learners. * Assists district staff in the implementation of their programs consistent with best practices and legal provisions. * Supports in conducting compliance monitoring visits for state and federal legal guidance, rules, and law requirements as applicable to English learners and immigrant students. * Provides support and technical assistance to schools and districts in the implementation of required state and federal legal guidance, rules, and law requirements as applicable to English learners and immigrant students as a result of compliance monitoring. * Works with external stakeholders (as required) to complete duties and responsibilities. * Participates in department, center, and agency cross-functional teams as designated by management. * Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Masters degree, or, a Bachelors degree plus two years of relevant professional experience. * Coursework in Bilingual Education, English as a Second Language, World Language, or Applied Linguistics. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) * Two years of experience (in addition to education requirements) working in education, preferably in schools, local education agencies, or state education agencies. * Experience with English learners, bilingual programs, dual language programs, linguistics and/or world language programs. * Basic computer knowledge. * Knowledge of law or grants. * Proficient in a language other than standard English. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's degree in Education. * Degree in Bilingual Education, English as a Second Language, World Language, Education Policy, Public Policy, or Applied Linguistics. * Experience as an educator or administrator. * Experience developing and leading professional development. * Experience with budgets and/or grants. * Knowledge about strategic planning, research methodologies, organizational development and/or adult/student learning. * Familiarity with grant procedures (e.g., application, implementation, monitoring, technical assistance). * Knowledge in conducting research and/or data analysis. * Knowledge of Title III of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and other federal and state legislation impacting culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
