    SEEDS - Access Changes Everything (formerly New Jersey SEEDS) is a privately funded, statewide, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities to academically talented, financially limited students. SEEDS works with competitive, primarily independent, secondary schools to provide opportunities for highly motivated, academically qualified, and economically disadvantaged students. The Summer Challenge Program (SCP) welcomes approximately 130 New Jersey students each year. SCP is a residential program held on a boarding school campus and consists of daily classes in English, Math, and History for three weeks during the summer following 7th grade. At the completion of the three weeks, selected students are invited to continue with the Scholars Program and participate in a twelve‐month program of classes, retreats, workshops, and events. The Capstone Experience (Capstone) is the final phase of the 14‐month Scholars Program, engaging approximately 95 SEEDS Scholars in academic enrichment. Capstone is a residential program held at a boarding school campus. The program consists of daily classes in English, Math, Science, and History for three weeks during the summer after 8th grade. Scholars also participate in a variety of elective classes, leadership development workshops, and sports activities as they prepare for the transition to independent school life. THE AFTER SCHOOL CENTER (ASC) During the regular school year, New City Kids operates an after school center that includes an art and music component as well as academic support. Children are given the opportunity to choose classes based on their interests (keyboards, drums, bass, ESL, etc.) For one hour, students attend their class; for a second hour, they complete homework with an assigned tutor. Tutors are coached by New City Kids adult staff, while teen performing arts teachers are taught by a professional musician once a week in both music and music teaching. SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES TUTORS Spend 30-45 minutes greeting the children and playing organized activities with them as they enter the ASC. Participate in “community time” from 3:30-4:00 doing tasks that staff assign to you, including singing with kids, encouraging kids to participate and cleaning snack tables. Work with groups of 4-5 children for an hour at a time helping them complete their homework; this is not doing their homework for them, but actively leading them through each assignment, asking questions and listening until they get the answers for themselves. Check their homework to make sure it is complete and accurate. Clean up the classrooms after the children leave. TEACHERS (MUSIC & ACTIVITY) Participate in “community time” from 3:30-4:00 doing tasks that staff assign to you, including singing with kids, encouraging kids to participate and cleaning snack tables. Prepare activities and lesson plans for assigned classes. This position attends to the educational, physical, social and emotional needs of the students while assisting the Classroom Teacher and Teacher Assistant in the implementation of students' IEP goals. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 3:00pm; 32.5 hours per week, 48 weeks per year. This position follows the school calendar (September - June), with a 6-week summer program. Salary Range: $16.55 -$18.55 Responsibilities include: Follows the classroom schedule ensuring that individual student's goals are achieved. Assists in the classroom to conduct individual and group activities. Keep student's work stations/areas organized. Assist in the construction of teacher-developed materials. Attend and participate in staff meetings and job skill training. Attend therapy sessions with students to allow for appropriate carryover in the classroom. Assists in the organization and arrangement of the classroom in order to provide a conducive learning environment. Escorts and assists students (via wheelchair, walker, etc.) to and from school buses while providing opportunities for students' increased independence in mobility and orientation. Attends all specials with students (PE, art, music, etc.) Takes off and puts on outdoor clothing as necessary and provide opportunities for students' increased independence in self-dressing and undressing. Perform wheelchair/equipment transporting, transferring and lifting. Toilet children and use appropriate adaptive equipment if necessary. This should be done at least 3 times daily (more often when necessary.) Change clothing when wet or soiled. Change diapers and/or sanitary napkins as necessary. Set out lunches and adaptive feeding equipment and provide opportunities for students' increased independence in meal preparation. Cut up or mash food as required and provide opportunities for students' increased independence in meal preparation. Feed students following OT procedures and provide opportunities for students' increased independence in self-feeding. Wash all feeding equipment and provide opportunities for students' increased independence in washing dishes and utensils. Put on and remove ankle-foot orthotics (AFOs), arm and hand splints, support. harnesses, neck braces, head pointers, etc. Lift, place, secure and remove students from prone boards. Set up computers, communication device systems and related adaptive equipment. Adhere to agency Code of Legal and Ethical Behavior, which require all employees, consultants, board members, volunteers and affiliates to perform their responsibilities according to ethical and legal standards with honesty, integrity, fairness, good faith and respect for others and the law. Follows all agency policy and procedures and demonstrates continuous regard to personal safety and the safety of others. Performs other appropriate job-related activities as requested by your supervisor or as circumstances warrant.
