The Special Educator functions as part of the treatment team and is responsible for educating and the supervision of students well in school.
The Special Educator will create a schedule and provide Special Education services to youth as assigned.
The Special Educator will share the schedule with the Head of School weekly.
Complete service tracking logs on a weekly basis.
Provide draft IEP no more than 10 days prior to the IEP meeting to the Head of School
Direct all LEA contacts to the Head of School
Participation in mandated and assigned professional training offered in the program.
Score IEPs
Provide a monthly update of what each student is working on for their monthly report.
Participate in staff meetings as required.
Always maintain students' confidentiality, report all pertinent information to supervisor.
Pursue appropriate channels of communication.
Understand the administrative structure, chain of command and program philosophy of VPI.
Requests for time off should be approved 2 weeks prior and the time should be requested in Paycor.
Appropriately represents VPI to the community, students' parents, and outside agencies.
Follow all company policies and procedures.

Education and/or Experience:
21 years of age
Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in field of assigned instruction or Bachelor's Degree with equivalent coursework and experience in the field of assigned instruction. ** A preference will be given to licensed teachers with educational experience related to students with identification/diagnosis with emotional disturbances, attentional issues or mental health conditions.
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in field of assigned instruction, with current teaching licensure. Two or more years' experience in instruction in the field of general education and/or special education, preferably middle school, and high school levels.
Prefer two years' experience interacting with children/youth. This may include, but is not restricted to camp counselor, coach, babysitting.
Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
Excellent organizational skills.
Experience working with disturbed adolescents.
Vermont Special Education Certification is required

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATION The Teacher Develops and implements appropriate curriculum, using classroom data, consistent with guidelines provided in the Head Start Performance Standards ensuring that all of the Head Start content areas are integrated into the curriculum. Required to complete home visits and family conferences to ensure that each family has adequate information about their child's Head Start experience. Complete required observations and assessments and required screenings both behavioral and developmental. Use positive reinforcement guidance to help children develop positive self-esteem and the ability to become self-disciplined. Attends Individualized Education Plan meetings as required. Encourages parents to participate in their child's educational activities.
WORK WITH STAFF/CONSULTANTS/SPECIALISTS The Teacher Works closely with Program and Content Area Managers to ensure effective and coordinated delivery of services to families. Attends staff meetings and utilizes staff development opportunities. Collaborate with consultants and specialists in an on-going manner to ensure delivery of services geared to the individual needs of each child enrolled. To meet changing needs of families, it may be necessary to schedule meetings and family events after regular hours.
RECORDKEEPING The Teacher Maintains complete records for each child enrolled as required by federal and state regulations. Maintains accurate attendance records and keeps records as requested by the director. Keeps a record of every contact with parents and other agencies regarding each enrolled child. Ensures BFIS credential account is up to date.
HOUSEKEEPING The Teacher Ensure the safety of children at all times by maintaining a safe physical environment. Adhere to all regulations regarding physical safety, evacuation procedures, fire drills, etc.
FAMILIES The Teacher Encourages parents to be involved with the program in an on-going manner. Act as a liaison and advocate for families and their needs. Works with FSW to plan family events. May need to work after hours to meet the families' changing needs.
SUPERVISION OF CLASSROOM The Teacher Classroom supervision of teacher assistant, student teachers, interns, or volunteers within classroom duties. Includes teacher assistant, volunteers, and interns in curriculum planning. Ensure that children are supervised at all times.

Job Description:
This position is a professional (unrepresented) part-time, grant funded, contracted position. In partnership with the Schenectady City School District (SCSD), LPP Certified Teachers from the SCSD assist with the Academic and Support Services component of the SUNY Schenectady County Community College's Liberty Partnerships Program. They recruit students and promote the program within their school. They also provide direct academic support to the program participants during the after-school program activities and summer program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide a physically, mentally and emotionally safe place for all LPP students. Assist in the development and implementation of the academic and support services components of the program. Provide academic assistance including tutoring, exam review and homework assistance to students enrolled in LPP. Help students to develop appropriate social skills, study skills and transition strategies. Follow and uphold the student code of conduct. Track and submit monthly attendance and service records. Attend regular staff meetings.
