Join a unique, family-centered team! Teachers of the Deaf are sought to collaborate with outstanding colleagues, a paraeducator/interpreter, and administrative team. The program serves children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing (D/HH), preschool through 8th grade who live within a two-hour radius of our campus, in a day school setting. Students are taught on-site by a Teacher of the Deaf (TOD), and students may be mainstreamed in their neighborhood school from kindergarten and up as directed by their IEP. All students wear amplification and use state of the art Digital & Soundfield systems. Class sizes are small.
Responsibilities include teaching a class of 4 to 8 like-aged students for all subject areas, and supervising and training a full-time educational Signing Exact English (S.E.E.) interpreter/paraeducator while integrating listening, articulation practice and English grammar into lessons. Duties include implementing and modifying established general education curriculum, collaborating with specialists and other teachers, monitoring student performance via daily and weekly data collection, reporting progress via trimester report cards and communicating with parents. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to attending area parent/guardian and general educator trainings, developing and implementing IEPs, and participating in triennial re-evaluations with the supervision of administration.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Deaf Education or equivalent; Experience signing American Sign Language (ASL) or Signing Exact English (S.E.E.); Washington State Teaching Certification or provisional equivalent; demonstrated strategies to develop speech, auditory, and English abilities in learners; excellent instructional skills in early childhood or elementary curricula; ability to modify general education materials and curricula to meet the language and learning needs of students who are D/HH; excellent classroom behavioral and social skills management. Also of great importance is the desire to work in a positive, successful, collaborative school community that not only supports children who are D/HH and their families, but the staff as well. This position will work 6.5hr/day from June 23, 2025 - July 11, 2025 (Not including July 4, 2025). There will be one additional paid prep day prior to the start of Summer School. will be calculated based on experience and education.
The Health Careers Summer School Teacher will be under the general direction of the Director of the West Sound Technical Skills Center. Responsibilities include teaching within classroom and lab setting and may entail fundamentals of nursing and care giving, critical thinking in nursing practice, legal, psychiatric, mother/baby, pediatrics, leadership, health promotion and education, and medical nursing for children and adults.
Summer school is a 90-hour introductory professional medical careers course.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Teach assigned course at the times and place scheduled.
* Supervise and advise students in the classroom and lab
* Revise and update course content, student assignments and activities, when necessary, consistent with the master course outline.
* Stay current in areas of assignment and in teaching techniques.
* Respond to work-related communications when requested.
* Monitor equipment and supply inventories, as necessary.
* Implement and participate on community advisory committees, curriculum and program reviews.
* Hours in accordance with the contracted agreement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES
* Must qualify for a Career and Technical Education Health Occupations vocational teaching certificate in the State of Washington, which includes three (3) years of recent gainful employment in the medical fields beyond the learning period; one year must be within the past 6 years.
* Provide a summer school program for students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Teaching experience.
* Nurse leadership experience at a health care facility.
* Teaching in a hospital, community, and/or educational setting.
* Experience in working with non-traditional learners and various ethnic and socio-economic groups.
* Computer literacy including familiarity with electronic communications, i.e., E-Mail, Internet, and knowledge of interactive learning software, i.e., nursing and allied-health occupations.

POSITION SUMMARY

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
This position is that of an instructional paraeducator and is represented by Public School Employees of Monroe collective bargaining unit. The position will work a schedule in coordination with the District student calendar. Salary and benefits as determined by the current bargaining agreement. Employee is required to complete all mandatory district trainings by specified deadlines.
