Full-time Description
Verland is now accepting applications for a Summer Program Teacher to join the team at our Main Campus in Sewickley, PA. The Summer Program Teacher develops, implements (with the assistance of the Summer Aides) and supervises both Program and Direct Care Services for ID/D students attending the Verland Summer School Program. The Summer Program Teacher provides specialized care in the areas of perception, self-direction, adapted living skills, social skills, sensorimotor and communication. This is a temporary, hourly, non-exempt position.
Shift Available:
Full Time: 7am - 3:30pm Monday Thru Friday (June - August)
Contributions:
Work directly with the students in programmatic situations and monitoring their progress
Supervise the performance of the Summer Aides and report disciplinary problems as necessary.
Prepare necessary documentation and supervise the documentation of assigned staff.
Attend all necessary meetings to ensure consistency of programming and communicating student progress.
Provide escort services for students utilizing community resources and provide personal care for the students.
Responsible for the development and implementation of weekly lesson plans, which include planning for community outings.
Must have general knowledge of various disciplines and how they pertain to each individual, i.e. behavioral plans, CT, OT, etc. and ensure that all pertinent plans are being followed.
Perform other job related duties as required.

Plan and implement activities on a daily basis according to the company's curriculum guidelines.
Completing on a daily basis all necessary paperwork including attendance sheets and food sheets.
Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent regulations such as Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing and Pennsylvania Keystone STARS standards.

Assists in supervising other teachers in the classroom.

Museum Educators II work collaboratively with Education and Programs staff to implement creative learning opportunities connecting art, artists and the museum to children, youth and families, children and families art, design and architecture classes, public programs and outreach. Museum educators co-lead and design instruction for educational programs throughout the museum and offsite, such as summer camps, school programs, adult and family programs and community workshops, tours, and art classes. This position emphasizes relationship-building and requires prompt, friendly, accurate communication with program participants and coworkers. Museum Educators are responsible for co-leading instruction for groups of 10-30 individuals, planning educational experiences based on program goals, lesson plans and other resources provided by CMOA Public Programs staff, and working collaboratively with a team of museum staff and volunteers to deliver creative, multi-form, observation based, effective, engaging, and safe learning experiences.
Museum Educators work collaboratively and will give and receive constructive criticism with the goal of developing their pedagogy skills and creative practice, and the quality of museum educational experiences. This will be facilitated by participation in professional development workshops structured by CMOA Education and Public Programs.
Museum Educators are scheduled by program, availability, skill sets and teaching focus. Weekend and/or evening work may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the education, community engagement, art history, art, architecture or design is preferred.
3 or more years of experience teaching at CMOA, in other informal settings, or external classroom teaching is required.
Hands on experience (including advanced, project-based, undergraduate or community coursework) in the art history, studio art, architecture and design, creative learning, or education is encouraged. Successful candidates will be asked to demonstrate their understanding of and participation in disciplinary inquiry.
Candidates must have successfully performed at the capacity of CMOA Museum Educator I or must have at least 3 years of prior teaching experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Museum Educators are engaged, patient, caring individuals who have the knowledge and skills to foster welcoming, safe, creative learning social settings that facilitate exploration of design and architecture, its relationship to ideas, everyday experiences, contemporary questions and self-expression.
Museum Educators must be comfortable with multiple learning styles and teaching methods, adapting their approaches in a dynamic setting to meet the needs of visitors and program participants.
Experience facilitating informal learning (experiential, community-based, outdoors, in museums, after-school programs, or similar settings) is preferred.
This position requires energetic and charismatic individuals who are interested in learning and teaching about the relationship between art and contemporary life.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate their ability to apply their knowledge of and the CMOA's exhibits and collections to guide student-directed inquiry, plan differentiated instruction, use authentic assessment, and conduct learner-centered activities for large groups.
