Five blocks to include a combination of four classes (up to two preps) and one writing center block. The 9-12 English curriculum includes:
English 9 - A foundational year in which students explore different genres of stories and different styles of writing, as well as developing analytical voices.
English 10 - In both regular and honors sections, students focus on close reading and authorial intent, as well as different authorial stances on human experience.
English 11 - In both regular and CHAI sections, this class teaches rhetorical analysis through the lens of both fiction and non-fiction, with a particular focus on American literature.
English 12 - In both regular and CHAI sections, this class serves as a culmination year in which students perform high-level analysis and comparative studies of the works on the book list.
Writing Center duties (helping students with essays in any area of study).
Each class meets for 75 minutes every other day.
The English department is committed to teaching excellence in literary analysis, discussion, and writing, and to interrogating our curriculum to ensure that it reflects the diversity of human experience. Vaughn Next Century Learning Center (“Vaughn”), located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Since the early 1970s, low student achievement had been a pattern. In 1993, tired of being helpless and hopeless, Vaughn became the first conversion charter school in the nation and was authorized by LAUSD. The charter was renewed most recently in 2018. Vaughn has over 30 years of experience as a successful independent charter school serving the district's low-income students. This previously failing elementary public school is now a full-service, community-based, K-12th charter school that assures all students are college/career ready, digitally literate, and globally competent.
DESCRIPTION
Passionate and experienced dance teacher sought to spearhead the development of a comprehensive multi-level dance curriculum at our high school. This full-time role encompasses foundational to advanced classes. The ideal candidate will possess expertise across diverse dance styles, a talent for engaging and motivating students in grades 9 - 12, and exceptional teaching abilities. The entry-level course will introduce students to various dance genres, while intermediate and advanced courses will progressively enhance technical proficiency and explore advanced concepts and choreography across different dance styles.

Curriculum Development: The teacher is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum in Film Production based on individual students' developmental capacities and needs.
