Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Directs and evaluates the learning experience of students in accordance with diocesan goals and policies. Cooperates with the building principal and special education department concerning students suspected to be in need of additional services. Maintains adequate, timely, and careful records as required, including but not limited to, assessments, grades, reports, discipline, and atypical situations that may arise in the classroom or with a student. Develops and implements curriculum for assigned courses and recommends needed curriculum revisions to the building principal. Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Provides a support system for students. Implements the discipline plan in accordance with diocesan policy. Implements pupil testing and assessment and maintains records as required by diocesan policy. Maintains student confidentiality. Creates accurate and timely progress reports of student achievement for parents. Provides for the care of school property, equipment, and materials and reports and damage, issues, or problems to the building principal. Submits request for supplies and equipment to the building principal or designee. Participates in school activities. Works with parents to foster and maintain a positive, cooperative relationship. Cooperates with parent groups to promote and maintain programs that serve students and the school. Works with grade-level teachers to implement cooperative teaching efforts. Works with all special area teachers as deemed appropriate and necessary. Works with special services personnel of the school as deemed appropriate and necessary. Maintains standards of performance as contained in the diocesan evaluation procedure. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students. Remains available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day, such as parent teacher conferences. Supervises field trips, recess, and other activities as requested. Performs all other duties reasonably related to position as may be assigned by Building Administrator or Superintendent. Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Qualifications Hold an IL Professional Educator License (PEL) for the particular position as required by the State. Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Master's Degree preferred. Must be knowledgeable of, and willing to promote, the Catholic faith Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, Google Classroom, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office / Google). Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff). Ability to communicate to students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner. Ability to understand instructions, concepts, and underlying principles. Ability to understand meanings of words and ideas associated with them, and to transfer understandings to individuals and groups as necessary.
