Children are given the opportunity to choose classes based on their interests (keyboards, drums, bass, ESL, etc.) For one hour, students attend their class; for a second hour, they complete homework with an assigned tutor. Tutors are coached by New City Kids adult staff, while teen performing arts teachers are taught by a professional musician once a week in both music and music teaching. SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES TUTORS Spend 30-45 minutes greeting the children and playing organized activities with them as they enter the ASC. Participate in “community time” from 3:30-4:00 doing tasks that staff assign to you, including singing with kids, encouraging kids to participate and cleaning snack tables. Work with groups of 4-5 children for an hour at a time helping them complete their homework; this is not doing their homework for them, but actively leading them through each assignment, asking questions and listening until they get the answers for themselves.
