Maintains annual WIDA Screener and ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 certifications each year.

Remains up to date on current trends and research in the field as it relates to EL achievement and local, state, and federal guidance on ESOL and immigrant students.
Assists in providing training at local school for the support in ESOL strategies and models of instruction and assessment for English Learner achievement.

Essential Functions:
Teacher's Assistant
As requested, assist teachers with:
Clerical work and classroom activities
Laminating papers
Making copies
Cover classes when teachers have meetings, appointments, or in their absence for a period of time
Trip Coordination
Assist the trip/event coordinator with the necessary paperwork for trips including permission slips and waivers from both FCS and the event host, as well as any other additional forms required specific to the trip
Coordinate with the school nurse to receive medications that need to go with a student on the trip
Prepare and maintain a list of food allergies
Send and maintain correspondence regarding trips/events in collaboration with the trip coordinator
Administrative
Provide weekly student and faculty monitoring reports for administration as needed
Field phone calls from parents; track down students with messages from home during the school day
Welcome visitors to the middle school office and assist with signing in our out their child in the absence of the middle school receptionist
Assist with standardized testing as needed
Assist the middle school office manager with clerical duties such as sending report cards, preparing certificates for Awards Chapel and other similar tasks
Prepare carline tags and label student planners
Communication
Collect and track and permission slips, waivers or fees a student may need to turn in for field trips and submit check requests to the business office as needed
Distribute carline tags and planners to the student lockers prior to the first day of school
Supervision
Lead monitor for the lunchroom each day. Post student schedule for lunchroom clean-up duty for the academic year
Oversee the lost and found area from time to time; donate items left for a period of time to local charity
Supervise morning room/detentions on Wednesdays
Attend all Middle School staff meetings and all school meetings as required
Other Responsibilities
Answer incoming phone calls in a pleasant, informed manner for the purpose of providing and creating a good image and first impression of the school
Greet all incoming students, families, and guests respectfully and professionally, determining their needs, checking scheduled appointments, and directing them to the proper person
Check voice mail messages left in school's general mailbox on routine basis and distribute accordingly those messages needing immediate attention
Receive and distribute miscellaneous materials such as school supplies, student lunches, forms, homework assignments, athletic equipment, etc. left with the front office for students by their parents, and/or others
Be knowledgeable and current on school activities, programs, and events related to the school calendar
Select appropriate channels for resolving concerns or problems as situations present themselves
Require all visitors to sign-in and identify themselves; provide appropriate passes and badges following policy and protocol
Check students in and out- issue passes and monitor requests for early dismissals
Assist in all aspects of maintaining a professional front office, including but not limited to fielding and directing incoming phone calls to the appropriate staff member in a timely, professional manner, filing and copying of sensitive information
Develop a positive, welcoming, and caring climate in the front office
Work closely with the MS nurse and administration regarding care for students, especially in emergencies
Make coffee for the staff everyday
Assist students and others with routine problems and refer items of concern to the appropriate party
Sort and distribute incoming mail, documents, books, materials and supplies following established procedures
Receive deliveries from outside supply and delivery services, ex. Fed-Ex, UPS; arrange for the distribution to the relevant department
Work closely with school counselors, communicating with them in order to help students and parents in need
Be able to quickly learn names and faces of students and parents
Serve as point of contact for all staff for facilities requests, repairs and needs.
Ensure that all monies received through the front office are secured properly and distributed to the appropriate individuals
Assist with all safety drills including fire, severe weather, and internal security drills
Assist the sub-coordinator and incoming substitutes, making sure they have lesson plans and necessary resources
