This position will assist the classroom teacher to implement program planning to include individualized activities for each child in the classroom and assist with transporting parents and children to and from group sessions. Responsibilities: Assists classroom teachers in reaching program goals. Assist teachers to maintain accurate records for the classroom such as food data, attendance, etc. Assists classroom teacher to monitor and maintain inventory and supplies used in the classroom. Monitors and maintains in good repair materials and equipment used in the classroom. Provides services to assigned families with children age birth to five years including pregnant mothers. Maintains accurate records of home visits, group sessions, classroom experiences, family contacts, services to children, food data, etc. Assists with scheduling and transportation of parents and children to health and social service appointments and Head Start/Early Head Start functions. Performs administrative duties such as accurately completing mileage records, maintenance records, assigned reports or surveys, etc. Must be on the bus before the first pick-up and remain until all children safely reach their destination. Ensures that all children are in proper safety devices. Maintains control of passengers and promptly reports any difficulties to immediate supervisor. Assists in serving meals as scheduled or requested for sanitation and mealtime interaction with children. Ensures that activities, material, etc., are appropriate to the developmental capabilities of each child. Implements an individualized developmental program for each child that reflects goals and objectives agreed upon by the family. Observes and records child progress through anecdotal records. Makes provisions for all children with disabilities so that their special needs are met and their well-being is assured. Provides a learning environment for children that invites exploration, emphasizes communication, problem solving, stimulates curiosity, and the development of new ideas and maximizes success. Provides a variety of appropriate equipment, activities and opportunities to promote the physical development of the children. Provides activities and experiences that develop questioning, probing and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children. Provides opportunities for children to understand, acquire and use verbal and non-verbal means of communicating thoughts and feelings. Provides experiences that stimulate children to explore and express their creative abilities while promoting process vs. product. Provides opportunities allowing children to accomplish tasks on their own. Helps each child to know, accept, and take pride in himself and to develop a sense of independence. Helps children learn to get along with others and encourages feelings of empathy and mutual respect among children and adults. Facilitates good health, nutrition, and safety practices by modeling, using appropriate materials, and facilitating experiences that promote personal health in children. Treats all parents and children with respect, kindness and dignity. Qualifications: A minimum of a CDA credential or must agree to enroll in CDA classes within a reasonable period of time to complete the required credential. An Associate, Bachelor or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or enrolled in Associate degree program in Early Childhood Education or related degree with at least 15 credits in early childhood education or child development preferred. If hired after November 1 st , 2016: at a minimum, must have CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, is enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or is enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire.
