Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures.
Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment.
Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment.
Is responsible for doing sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operative with the circulating nurse.
Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated.
Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with surgeon.
Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas. Assists in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets.
Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background.
Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills.
Follows all equipment and safety guidelines and is responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment.
Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team.
Attends inservices, conferences, and meetings as required.
Communicates effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, and their office staffs, patients, and employees. Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy.
Maintains designated certifications such as CPR, as offered by the center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures.
Before an operation, surgical technologists help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures.

Job Description
In preparing operating rooms, surgical technicians ensure that all of the equipment needed for the procedure is properly disinfected and assembled. They also check that the equipment is in working order. They place sterile solutions in areas where they can be easily reached by doctors.
• To prepare patients for surgery, surgical technicians may clean, shave and disinfect the areas of a patient's body that will be operated on. They then move patients to the OR and position them on the operating table, using sterile surgical drapes to cover them. Monitoring patients' vital signs and observing their status is another job responsibility of a surgical technician.
• During surgery, surgical technicians pass sterile surgical equipment, such as scalpels and forceps, to surgeons. They also might cut sutures, keep track of items like sponges and needles, operate lights and help dress a patient's wounds. Additionally, surgical techs are sometimes responsible for the preparation and disposal of lab specimens.
• After surgery, a surgical technician generally transports a patient back to his or her room. He or she then returns to the OR to clean and prep for the next surgery.

Job Summary and Qualifications
We are seeking a Surgical Technician. As a Surgical or Operating Room Tech, you greet our patients, comfort them and transport them to the surgical suite. Once in the operating room, you will perform technical duties to assist in preparing and caring for our surgical patients. You will join an amazing team of caring, close knit surgical professionals!
Typical duties may include:
* You will assemble supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
* You will prepare sterile instrument table for your procedures.
* You will assist in positioning patients and preparing patient's skin for surgery.
* You will maintain sterile techniques and actively monitor situations that could lead to breaches in sterile technique.
* During procedures, you will assist the surgical team. This may include passing instruments, sponges and sutures.
* During procedures you will also assist in the monitoring the patient.
* After the procedure, you will gather equipment for cleaning and sterilization.
What qualifications you will need:
* Graduate of a formal surgical technologist program required
* Certification as a Surgical Technologist required. (CAAHEP, NCCT, NBSTSA
* BLS Required (American Heart or American Red Cross)
* Hospital based Surgical Tech experience preferred
* Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds

Surgical technologists are members of operating room teams, which most commonly include surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating nurses.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
* A graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
* Must be certified to perform CPR with 0-2 years of clinical experience in a related field.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures.
* Before an operation, surgical technologists help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
* Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures.
* Performs pre-operation preparations to the patient's skin, body and medical equipment.
