About This Role Reading Assist's Tutors to Teachers Delaware program, in collaboration with Wilmington University, offers an opportunity for participants to obtain a Master's degree by committing to two years of AmeriCorps service as a Fellow or a reading tutor for underserved elementary students in Delaware.
This program allows Fellows to earn an M.Ed in Special Education and Delaware state licensure within two years. During the second year, Fellows engage in a school district teaching residency, receiving an extra stipend while gaining valuable teaching experience.
Reading Assist Fellows are placed in elementary schools across Delaware, focusing on providing reading instruction to kindergarten through third-grade students who encounter significant reading difficulties. Our Fellows play a crucial role in teaching foundational reading skills to students who may struggle to learn through traditional classroom methods, making a lasting impact on the educational outcomes of young learners.
Hourly Requirements
Full-time: 38-40 hours/week, Monday-Friday from approximately 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (plus planning time)
Part-time: 26-28 hours/week, Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. OR Tuesday-Thursday 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (plus planning time)
Responsibilities
Lead daily one-on-one or small group reading sessions in person lasting 30 minutes for up to 10 students.
Complete 1200 service hours (900 if part-time) each year of the program, starting September 22, 2025, and ending in June 2027.
Participate in a comprehensive three-week, full-time, graduate-level initial training September 22, 2025 to October 10, 2025.
Develop personalized lesson plans tailored to individual student needs and monitor progress accordingly.
Participate in weekly meetings with a coach to receive guidance and feedback on performance.
Actively contribute to the AmeriCorps community by participating in training, events, and collaborative projects.
Coordinate closely with school staff, adhering to school schedules, including breaks and holidays.
Start courses on August 25,2025 and complete asynchronous courses for the M.Ed. program at Wilmington University and maintain 3.0 GPA throughout the program.
Compensation and Benefits
Candidates can earn between $20,000-$50,000 a year in stipends in exchange for their service with Reading Assist, earning their degree, and gaining hands-on classroom experience as teaching residents. Through this Reading Assist and Wilmington University partnership, your M.Ed in Special Education can cost as little as $4,000 once all credits and education awards are applied.

* Experience: We are looking for experience teaching and working with children.
* Previous experience in classroom teaching, fieldwork, or a minimum of two (2) years of ESF experience.
* Previous experience working with children in a camp setting is preferred.
* Hours: Typically, from 8:15 am to 3:45 pm, Monday to Friday, with opportunities for extended hours.
* Schedule Commitment: Any schedule changes must be pre-approved by the site director.
* Required Training: Complete all required ESF and state-mandated training and onboarding.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
* Teach & Inspire: Implement ESF curriculum. Actively engage campers, offer support, and provide guidance to bring lesson plans to life.
* Dive Into the Camp Day! Promote and lead daily activities and projects with enthusiasm, collaborating effectively with counselors and fellow instructors.
* Safety & Positive Group Management: Ensure the safety and well-being of campers with emphasis on positive behavior and effective group management. Promptly report any concerns to the Site Director.
* Enforce all archery rules and regulations.
* Ensure safety of campers and team members in and out of the archery area
* Supervision of the archery area, including equipment (proper set-up, supervision, and maintenance)
* Be the Ultimate Role Model: Supervise campers, while fostering a positive and safe environment.
* Demonstrate ESF Core Values & Code daily, from "Gratitude" to "Bring It" daily.
* Model the ESF Virtues of Character (Gratitude, Respect, Trustworthiness, Effort, Kindness, Positivity, Resilience, Community) in camp daily.
* Adhere to all company policies.

Reporting Relationships:
* Directly report to and take guidance from the Camp Director, with additional accountability to the Site Director.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Push/pull, lift, and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campus. Work outside, upright, and mobile for six (6) to eight (8) hours per day
* Respond to emergencies, including running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and ascending stairs without undue exertion.

Position Summary
Teacher Naturalists assist in delivery of environmental, agricultural and cultural education lessons for children, adults and families from schools, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, community and recreation centers, faith-based groups, professional organizations, other groups, and the general public. Lessons may include field studies, outreach, overnights and extended days, seasonal programs, summer camps, or other activities and may be held inside or outdoors in all weather conditions. Scheduling is highly flexible and can include weekdays, weekends, daytime. or evening hours throughout the year. There is no minimum hour requirement and hours will vary seasonally. Training is provided. Experienced educators and individuals with a love of nature and the outdoors, and interested in sharing that passion with others, are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
Teach environmental, farm-based agro-ecology, and cultural/historical education lessons to groups of people (preschool through adult).
Assist with program preparation and clean-up and handling of program materials, equipment and animals with care and resourcefulness.
Support the development of further educational programs as requested.
Attend appropriate instructor-training workshops.
