ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: 1. Assist in developing and implementing classroom plans that are developmentally appropriate, meet the individual needs of the child, and stimulate social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth 2. Assist in conducting appropriate screenings and assessments for every enrolled child within the allotted time frame 3. Assist in the implementation of the curriculum which is supportive of the developmental milestones of children 4. Assist in planning and implementing a learning environment that is based on early childhood education best practices including but not limited to: ECE Content Standards, Daily Schedule, Learning Centers and applicable curricula 5. Incorporate Conscious Discipline techniques in daily schedules and routine 6. Conduct regular staffing meetings for child status review- referrals 7. Assist in planning and implementing special events including but not limited to appropriate field trip experiences, end of year activities and transition to kindergarten visits 8. Plan and implement literacy experiences for children and their families 9. Monitor compliance with all rules and regulations and follow up as needed to establish and maintain compliance 10. Assist in completion of Parent Child Registration Visit and Education Home visits in cooperation with the team. 11. Assist in establishing and maintaining complete child files 12. Assist in establishing and maintaining child assessments including written observations of child's well-being, portfolios, work samples and individual child goals 13. Conduct daily health checks, refer as needed 14. Establish and maintain communication with Family Service Specialist and parent regarding screening, assessment and referrals 15. Assist in invoicing, collecting of co pays, and development of payment plans for families 16. Ability to sit/stand for a lengthy period of time, stoop, bend, and lift (up to 50 lbs.) while attending to the needs of the children. 17. Responsible for providing and maintaining a safe and effective classroom/center environment that ensures the safety and well-being of children. 18. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Creates, maintains and manages an attractive, warm, and challenging learning environment for young children, incorporating developmentally appropriate learning activities which meet the needs of the group as well as those of individual children; implements the program curriculum and the Head Start performance standards for classrooms; prepares developmentally appropriate daily lesson plans in advance, which include: multicultural educational materials and activities; both classroom and playground activities; family style dining at meals and snacks as per program policy and procedure; and, individualized activities that are recorded in the lesson plans. Provides daily care and oversite to a group of children in an Early Head Start classroom: assists children in on-going learning and developmental activities such as learning colors, numbers, alphabet, songs, playing games and other activities; supervises indoor and outdoor play activities; assists children with self-help skills like dressing, eating, tooth brushing, toilet training and other areas of health, safety and hygiene; Plans and creates a development screening and assessment program for each child: provides parents and families with education and information about the child's development, best practices and any concerns by working with program staff team members and other agencies in order to implement needed services; prepares an induvial family service plan and/or an individual service plan. Prepares and implements parent-child activities for each family which are individually tailored and appreciative to the multi-cultural background of the child and family, the developmental level of the child and other issues like children with special needs and disabilities. Ensures that the children are safe and kept away of potential sources of danger that might cause injury or sources of potential harm out of the reach of children: keeps classroom neat and orderly. Develops and sustains good personal relationships with a variety of individuals, children, parents, families, other staff members and agency services providers. Maintains records, documents, assessments and assists in preparing written reports, logs and schedules. Engages in ongoing professional development and training to keep up with best practices and certification requirements, including education and care services for children with special needs; attends meetings as required and serves as a spokesperson and advocate for the Head Start programs.
