Diving Into the Values at Charter Spectrum

Values That Inspire Innovation

Charter Spectrum highlight 5 main priorities in the way that they operate. These priorities are applied across every facet of the company, from the hiring process to routine installations, to innovating the technology that they use. Those 5 priorities are:

  • Building a highly-skilled, locally based and diverse workforce
  • Investing in America's infrastructure
  • Strengthening the communities they serve
  • Driving innovation
  • Providing superior products and services at a better value
  • The Culture at Charter Spectrum

    Empowering Differences

The culture at Charter Spectrum is built on a foundation of diversity and inclusion. They have some great policies in place to make sure that they are always doing everything that they can to maintain their diversity and empower people. There are 5 Business Resource Groups in place at Charter Spectrum for employees. These groups allow access to networks of employees with similar experiences and backgrounds as theirs and offer a platform for every employee to have a voice. Those 5 groups are:

  • Disabilities
  • LGBTQ+
  • Multicultural
  • Veterans
  • Women
  • Tom Rutledge, Chairman and CEO, said, "Reflecting the vibrant diversity of the communities we serve enables us to deliver superior products and services to customers and is a critical component of our success."

The Charter Spectrum also puts a big emphasis on building better communities. They do this through their product, but also through a lot of community outreach and volunteer work. They have structured and very successful philanthropic programs that they roll out across the country every year. They have Spectrum Housing Assist, Spectrum Digital Education, and Spectrum Employee Community Grants. All three of those are great ways that the company does its part in the community, but that last one is definitely one you don't see every day.

Through the Spectrum Employee Community Grants, employees can nominate nonprofit organizations that they have an affinity for or connection to, and have volunteered within the last year. Charter Spectrum just may single that organization out for some special help.

Rutledge also said, "We, at our core, are a service organization. And every product we sell has a huge service component."

    The Benefits at Charter Spectrum

    A Wide Spectrum of Benefits

Charter Spectrum recognizes that employees can do their best work when they don't have stresses such as whether they are going to be able to feed their family or pay for a doctor's visit or not. That is why they offer employees such great benefits and perks. Some of those benefits and perks include:

  • Medical, Dental, Vision
  • 401k
  • Paid holidays, vacation and sick time
  • Paid parental leave
  • Dependent life insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Adoption reimbursement

These special programs consist of things like fertility management, second opinions and in-depth medical reviews, and centers of excellence for non-emergency surgeries. They also offer tools to parents with children with developmental delays. There are also ample opportunities to do work towards making the community that you live in a better place to live and work.

    The Interview at Charter Spectrum

The interview process at Charter Spectrum is overall a pretty straightforward one. The process can take anywhere from 2-5 weeks. The initial contract will likely be with a recruiter or HR rep through a phone screen. After that, the next interviews will most likely be in-person interviews, unless a special arrangement is set up with the hiring body.

Some questions you will likely be asked throughout the interview process are:

  • What experiences have you had that would help with this work?
  • Why Charter Spectrum?
  • Why do you think we removed dropboxes for payments?
  • Tell us about a time you faced a challenge and how you overcame it.
  • Ifyou had three job offers and everything was equal, what would be your deciding factor?
  • And of course...Tell me about yourself.
  • Charter Communications's Mission Statement

To provide value to its customers by offering high quality communication services, continually improving customer care, and unwavering commitment of its employees.

Pros of working at Charter Communications

Charter has an amazing overall compensation package.

Cons of working at Charter Communications

Charter doesn't say up with the times in terms of work life balance. They are very resistant to change. An example reluctance to have any kind of remote working policy. It has caused the company to lose in house talent and attract new talent.

    Charter Communications Benefits

    Yearly bonus

What do you like best about Charter Communications's CEO and the leadership team?

They provide solid leadership and attempt to keep the company on the cutting edge of technology.

How would you improve Charter Communications's culture?

I would improve the culture by implementing some of the things that are mentioned in the employee survey each year. i would have more opportunities for employee to interact outside of the regular work day.

How did you prepare for the Charter Communications interview?

I prepred for interview by reviewing the job description in detail and being able to speak to each bullet point with examples

How does your compensation at Charter Communications compare to the industry average?

I believe that the compensation is slightly higher that the industry average

What's the diversity at Charter Communications like?

I think the company demographics overall are good. I would say not so much in my particular organization.

What brings you the most joy at Charter Communications?

I truly enjoyed the specific work that i performed daily and to see my end users happy with the output

Pros of working at Charter Communications

Independent work schedule, ability to make my own paycheck based on my effort and success.

Cons of working at Charter Communications

Management rarely knows the actual job that their employees do because they are outside hires, unrealistic expectations are placed on the representative to produce despite zero accountability by other departments and no assistance from the management to get fellow leadership colleagues to hold their departments accountable for their work effectiveness and efficiency. Most importantly, people were promoted who cheated and used dishonest sales tactics leading to unreasonable expectations for honest workers and stolen opportunities to advance within the company.

    Charter Communications Benefits

Freedom to act as an independent representative and to setup my day as I saw fit.

What do you like best about Charter Communications's CEO and the leadership team?

Nothing, total garbage, very fake people with no idea how to run a company.

How would you improve Charter Communications's culture?

Stop promoting yes men and yes women from outside the company for leadership positions and instead promote successful workers who have done the jobs they oversee for the company.

How did you prepare for the Charter Communications interview?

Didn't need to prepare, went iin and answered honestly and was myself. You can prepare for an interview to overcome lack of experience or education, nor can you prepare in such a way as to overcome personality flaws that are readily apparent to managers.

How does your compensation at Charter Communications compare to the industry average?

It was a lot lower because we had no control over the work done in other departments. Had the installation and construction departments done their jobs better, we would've made good pay, but on average it was okay.

What's the diversity at Charter Communications like?

There was plenty of diversity, but more importantly they weren't hired for their skin color or ethnicity, but rather because they merited the opportunity.

What brings you the most joy at Charter Communications?

Helping customers get the services they needed.

Pros of working at Charter Communications

I liked working independently with very little micro management. As long as you were doing your job, ie. Making sales, attending meetings etc

Cons of working at Charter Communications

Management changed the structure of the metrics of your sales and in turn changed the commission structure. There wasn't a Customer SERVICE dept you could refer unhappy customers too. You had to diffuse the situation. And then speak with your immediate market manager .

    My co-workers.

Cons of working at Charter Communications

Career progression is promised but is non-existent. My skill set and work load has increased, however, my employer will not compensate me for these improvements. Annual raises are capped at 3% so that management can obtain bonuses, there aren't any incentives and no matter how much one accomplishes, it is never enough to achieve higher levels of pay.
